Re: String/rope/hemp fibers in place of feathers for arrows
A rope per four arrows would actually be a pretty high cost. It's a tradeoff for being able to make arrows without having to gather up a few dozen eggs first so you don't run out of chicken.

Re: MCForge is awesome...
Open source tends to always win in my experience. The only people who frown upon it are those unwilling to learn how to do more than use the file menu options. And those who sell software to that sort, I suppose. I've been very impressed by what Forge is already capable of so I'll probably have my f...

I've found it easiest to build a small pillbox with gaps for windows. When you look at them they'll teleport right up to the window where you can smack them with your sword. So far I've grabbed a dozen pearls that way.

Never said it would replace planks. Particle board/plywood would be something completely different, possibly not even available as a standard block since you're never going to see particle board a meter thick.

String/rope/hemp fibers in place of feathers for arrows
Feathers can be very difficult to come by these days and it can take a long time to get a chicken farm up and running. String/yarn/frayed rope has been used in the past as a way to stabilize the flight of arrows in the past and could provide a more easily renewable way to produce basic arrows. Such ...

That might explain why the MC forums aren't phasing you... Looking forward to seeing what you think of the changes. I've mostly just been hollowing out the entire map after the first couple ravines. Re: Oceans a bit tooo big?
Considering that I've been trying for six months to find a seed with an ocean larger than 400x150, that is a beautiful, beautiful seed. I'd actually be happy if there were no small islands, just a few kilometers of open water.

Or rather than limiting it to fibers make it usable as a lathe for woods and metals as well. Moulding could be cooked via mechanical power along with a strap to make hafts out of time and the cost of the spinning device instead of glue. Yes it would be an infinite source of sawdust. The same way a tree farm is an infinite source of wood. If you're willing to put in the time and effort to build a contraption to make sawdust there is no reason it shouldn't be available since it would actually be more difficult seeing how there is no ...

Fracking shoddy DSL eating my posts... Third time's the charm, right? I'm glad to see at least one person agrees with me on the lack of healing items now. Getting poisoned once or twice when you have time to recover is one thing. Getting poisoned over and over again while trying to fight past half a dozen mobs to get back out of the mineshaft is something else. Seeing your health meter turn green when you were down to three hearts and no way to recove...

Sort of build District 9 for the NPCs after you steal all their building materials from the village? Stronger wood opens up options down the road for parts that need to be higher strength but shouldn't be made out of metal. Can also be used as a replacement for mattress stuffing. Excelsior used to b...

Sawdust
I've spent the last two days running storm-felled logs through our sawmill, creating enough sawdust to fill the bed of a pickup truck twice over. Combined with the recent addition of glass panels I got to thinking. Sawdust could be created as a saw byproduct fairly easily and would require zero new ...

Fun fact, Poland actually boasts one of the highest national IQ averages in Europe. Also: France has fought 168 major wars and won twice as many as they've lost Studies have shown that British have the best teeth in the world with 0.6 teeth showing decay per person There are two kinds of people in t...

This just kinds strikes me as shoddy design on Mojangs part. Yes I'm having more fun at times but then it comes to a screeching halt when I have finite passive mobs but no way to get more. Or get poisoned with no available antidote. Or find out that food can no longer heal but have no alternative th...

I'm... not a fan of IC. The whole mod just feels overpowered to me and way beyond what can be accomplished when you start out with tools made from sticks. It skips a dozen 'make the tools to make the tools' steps along the way. Buildcraft is borderline. I mostly only use it for the quarry in order t...

I can second Freespace 2 without reservation. It's one of those games that holds up quite well 12 years later. If you like competition and want to try an MMO, Eve Online is as hardcore as it gets. I've not seen another that allows you to steal the belongings of the players you defeat while still all...

Not to mention the fact that by now BTW has entered the 'AAA Indy title' realm and would be worth US$10-15 if it retailed. Yes it's building on an existing engine but it could be argued that making it mesh as well as it does with vanilla is harder to do than writing a game from scratch using a licen...

I could see such a thing being very useful for clearing out large areas of water. I've run into a few cases where I've spent hours trying to fill in and then dig out a lake that was in the way of flattening an area. Dirt can be cleared much more quickly than stone after all. Cement does work but if ...
