Can't...get...Sabbath...outta...my...head

Post by FlowerChild »

I blame it all on Raust. Ever since that reference to "Paranoid" the other day, I've been listening to old Sabbath albums from the 70's pretty much non-stop, and when I'm away from my sound system, I keep humming this over and over and over...

Damn you wolfaboo!!!!! ;)

I'm sorry for indirectly causing this to happen :(

The only cure for songs stuck in your head that I know of is to get another song stuck in your head, one that doesn't annoy you.

Forgive me for my lack of foresight, not all of us are equipped with 20^20^40-30^60^90 vision in 500 compound optical analogues :(

As long as they're not from Technical Ecstasy or Never Say Die... I say there's a worse fate you could have. ;)

I think I just forgot how fucking cool early metal was. Like, I'm totally loving the heavy blues influence in this stuff, which is just not something you hear anymore.

Once again I find myself enjoying music from before my time.

I am going to have to see if my dad has any of this stuff.
And HOW!

There's several of their albums in full on Youtube.

I'd recommend starting at the beginning:

N.I.B. is one of my favorite songs (I once sent a girlfriend into some kind of paranoid occult frenzy doing that one in karaoke). The Wizard kicks ass too.

Saw Sabbath two weeks ago at download festival, was stoked when they played wizard. I just went mental when Ozzy broke out the harmonica. Good times...

The best cure I have for getting a song out of my head is to try to sing it backwards. You have to dissect the song piece by Piece to do it, and that tends to kill it. Melodic Vivisection.

If you need a good song to replace it, I recommend either something from the VVVVVV soundtrack, or Full Moon by Sonata Arctica, which is an epic song about a werewolf and his girlfriend.

I haven't thought about Black Sabbath in years. Listing to this bring up a ton of memories of when I was a teen. Now you have infected me with the need to listen it again. Next I'm going to have to listen to Meatloaf and eventually that's going to lead me Dio.
Thank you and curse you.
Is it better to have posted and failed or to have never posted at all?

Flower Raust how could you... I had some Sabbath on my iPod awhile ago but found some new music and stopped listening to Black Sabbath, now I feel the urge to find as much Sabbath as possible and listen to it all.

I...can't...take...it...

I even got the DJ at the club I was at tonight to play "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" and it did not exorcise this spirit.

WTF? I'm like 16 again.

Without speculating about anyone's age, you can (espefially as a teenager) be a huge fan of bands/albums/songs from years or decades prior ;) I was born in the 80's and I had a period when I was about 17 that I only listened to music made in the 60's and 70's.

Oh yeah of course ! I'm 21 and I listen to a lot of old bands (mainly because my dad listen to them, of course) but actually never got around Black Sabbath (even if I know the name and probably heard some of their music without actually knowing it was theirs). However, I really like what made bands like Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, etc ...
To me those (and others I forgot) can't be compared to most of today's bands (which are, for the most part, merchandise crap).

One thought that occured to me awhile ago, was that there was probably a fair amount of crap music from times like the 60's and 70's, but only the good stuff made it.

And there are quite a few good bands out there. many of whom are drowned out by the crap. But I think that the really good stuff will make it.
And HOW!

Oh yeah, sure their are some good bands today too, but as you said, we don't hear much from them (or not from all of them, at least). I'm a huge fan of The R. H. C. P. (most of their albums), love The Black Keyes, Franz Ferdinand... and yeah, they can be categorized as "merchandise bands" but IMO they still achieve pretty good music.

My favorite Sabbath song is...

War Pigs!!!

Especially the instrumental at the end, Luke's Wall. Always carries me away.
