a way of farming cocoa beans
While over on the black dye thread, Stormweaver referred to black as the new brown, and it made me think of how rare brown dye is, and that maybe a way to grow cocoa beans may fit nicely here.
It might provide a new automation system, it has at least a basic use currently, and could have more tacked on with new foods, and it would provide you with another way to weed out idiots from the forum when they suggest you make cocaine with the rest of the plant ;)
Probably not the greatest suggestion as it would consume a blockID, thought I'd at least put it out there,

Doesn't dung and wool in the cauldron produce brown wool?

One could say that dung is the new brown.Gilberreke wrote:Doesn't dung and wool in the cauldron produce brown wool?
Re: a way of farming cocoa beans
As for cocoa, sure, Mojang should make that a plant one day. Right now it's entirely too rare for its uses. Doesn't seem like something BTW needs though, so it's along the lines of "suggesting a use for a useless item".

But aren't cocoa beans used in the recipe for cookies, too?FlowerChild wrote:One could say that dung is the new brown.Gilberreke wrote:Doesn't dung and wool in the cauldron produce brown wool?

I'm not sure people would appreciate an alternate cookie recipe involving dung, but sure. Why not?Yamboyz1 wrote: But aren't cocoa beans used in the recipe for cookies, too?

Mmmmm sounds delicious! I can't wait to stuff my face with cookies full of shit in the next release! :)FlowerChild wrote:I'm not sure people would appreciate an alternate cookie recipe involving dung, but sure. Why not?Yamboyz1 wrote: But aren't cocoa beans used in the recipe for cookies, too?
Unless you were kidding, of course.... If so please disregard that last comment I made

Maybe I'll make it part of the process of consuming souls for xp or something. My encouraging people to play with poo is so passe now. Time to take it up a notch.

reading about the dung cookies made me think of this famous line

That's an excellent idea. Make the recipe work with cocoa or dung and let people make their own choices >:)FlowerChild wrote:I revel in playing in the gutters man :)KWilt wrote: Please, FC. The BDSM I love, but bestiality coprophilia? I thought we were better than that.

A cocoa bean plant is already a upcoming feature for Minecraft, so if a cocoa bean plant was implemented in BTW, it would eventually be deleted, or integrated into Vanilla Minecraft like pistons.
KSP for the win!

What? FC taking a jeb at taking it up a notch?
Err, bad puns aside.
I must have missed the cocoa plant Mojang thing but really, what's the point if the beans are only used to colour wool? Maybe Jeb will endow upon them strange and interesting possibilities...

There are cookies. (Unless you're speaking hypothetically in regards to the implementation of... 'dung cookies'. [Goddammit, FC, the mere thought of those things is disgusting and disturbing.])Flesh_Engine wrote:What? FC taking a jeb at taking it up a notch?

I dunno. I wonder what the point of lapis, the two flowers and squid ink are as well.Flesh_Engine wrote:what's the point if the beans are only used to colour wool? Maybe Jeb will endow upon them strange and interesting possibilities...
Hint: people like dyeing wool.

I just cannot believe it.
No seriously, i am at a total loss in that regard.
Don't get me started on the Lapis, at least FC did something useful with it.

I fail to see the problem here. People pay a lot of money for coffee that has seen the inside of a digestive system once before ... ;)Kwim wrote:[Goddammit, FC, the mere thought of those things is disgusting and disturbing.])

Could be a good future ingredient for potions. If so, then a cocoa plant would be useful, but too powerful if not balanced correctly.Flesh_Engine wrote:What? FC taking a jeb at taking it up a notch?

Re: a way of farming cocoa beans
ANYTHING could be a potion ingredient. Seriously, the potion system is like the dumping ground for features that Mojang added to the game which didn't have a proper intended use.Dreadwraith wrote:Could be a good future ingredient for potions. It's really not an argument for inclusion of something as a result.
Re: a way of farming cocoa beans
Anyhow, Jeb said he didn't have time to get cocoa plants in for 1.0, implying that he's planning to do so, so I don't think this thread belongs in suggestions at all.

The only ingredient used for potions that existed before the pre releases was sugar, everything else was added specifically to be used for the potion system.
