New Release! (BTW V3.20)

Post by FlowerChild »

Version 3.20 of Better Than Wolves is ready for download!

Download Link

This release contains the following changes:

-Added the Mining Charge as a new block type.

-Added Dynamite as a new item.

-Changed the way the Block Dispenser updates so that it will more reliably respond to rapid changes in redstone state. This should improve its usability as a ROM, and make it easier to work with in combination with Buddy.

-Changed the Buddy Block to introduce a minimal delay (1 tick or 1/20th of a second) before powering up when it detects a change to fix problems with certain blocks (like ladders) being placed next to its output side.

-Changed Hand Crank so that it can be placed on top of the Buddy Block, and so that it only sends out update notifications when it powers on and off.

-Changed the Detector Block so that you can stick stuff to the sides and top of it (torches, minecart rails, redstone wire, etc.)

-Changed Saw Dust, Potash, Soap, Redstone Eye, Filament, & Hardboiled Eggs to be properly filtered by Hoppers.

-Changed Siding so that you can stick stuff to the solid side of it.

-Fixed problems where Urns that were in mid-flight when a game was saved, and reloaded, would disappear.

Happy belated Guy Fawkes day! :)

Wow, I haven't even played around with the Buddy Block yet. Can't wait to try out the Dynamite.

Hmm. Mining charges are nifty!

Haven't actually figured out how to make them, mind. I've nailed down how to make the dynamite, but not the mining charge itself.

(edit, solved. Also: Welp, looks like i've got a reason to build an automatic tree farm now! And to rebuild my hemp farm. NIfty.)

Gonna have to test it, but imo any improvements to the BD must be a good thing.

Now I just wish my world actually had anything I could use dynamite/mining charges on. Maybe I should go to the nether...

Honestly, I'm looking forward to seeing all the pics of the shit you guys blow up with this release :)

This may have been the only release I tested almost exclusively in a backup of my main-save. My lair looked like a huge smoking crater by the time I was done.

Quick question: Is there supposed to be an automated way to create dynamite sticks, or the mining charges? (I'm not really expecting one, as it seems the sort of thing that stands a 50/50 chance of killing steve horribly, but it's always good to check such things).

Also, i love that this finally solves the massive hellfire dust over-supply you end up with while trying to get soul-urns for other antics. It's also a fantastic way to burn up supplies from a mob trap and other automated farms. (I have a stupidly huge pile of glue and chicken meat at the moment, to put things in a bit of context.) Seriously, for such a "Small" addition, you've made me completely rethink my current base-design approaches.

So thankyee verrily!

Mining charge, does that have a better chance of keeping the destroyed blocks than TNT does?

well made charge i placed sideways on stone underground and result was interesting..
all explosion was concentrated upwards as 3x3 hole appeared above the placed charge, but not on block where it was placed anyway research said that tnt is still more powerful however mining charge returned ALL materials from explosion range (going update wiki)

Finally some explosives! :)

Some constructive criticism though.
Wouldn't it be cooler if Mining Charges exploded downwards from the direction you placed it?
And then gave them the same placement functionality as panels.
Some added functionality, just a thought.

Otherwise good stuff : )

ps: I haven't actually used them yet.
This is a assumption based on previous posts.
So i might be wrong about how they work.

You're welcome :)

Yeah, that was one of the goals with dynamite: require the player to automate a large number of both vanilla and mod systems, really making use of the features of the mod, to produce them in sufficient quantity to be effective. I'm likely to be building a number of automated farms in my own game today (particularly reed and chicken) so that I can make full use of the charges.

There's no means of automating production at present, but that's pretty typical when I release new features. Plus, full automation is likely to occur at a higher tech level given the complexity of the recipes and the power of the features.

However, I should be releasing some additional features over the next little while that will aid in *partial* automation, easing the work involved in some of the intermediate steps.

What I will never understand, is how you can bring out updates of sucha high standard, so regularly! Why can't mojang be like that?

This ^ :P

Minecraft is a great example of the modding turning a good game into pure genious.
If they took a anti-mod stance the game would pretty much fall apart.

Please don't turn this thread into Notch/Mojang bashing.

Mojang has a much larger code-base to deal with than I do, meaning they have to devote more time to supporting it than I do (note how as the mod gets larger, more and more releases of mine are oriented towards supporting existing features). They also have to worry about SMP, while I do not at present, and this means more time devoted to each feature.

Without the work and genius of Mojang, none of what I do would be possible. I may not always agree with the particular direction that they take the game in, but I have nothing but respect for them and what they've accomplished overall.
