Clay recycling urn spinner?

Post by Biohazard91X »

I'm trying to create a simple urn maker that recycles clay and sends it to a seperate hopper from the urns. In the past I've always used urn makers that send the clay balls along with the urns, however this slows down the kiln as the BD keeps spitting out clay blocks instead of unfired urns D:

I've spent the past few hours playing around and building an awesome full urn maker (from clay to soul urns), but this problem is stopping it working at full speed!

Does anybody have any designs I could borrow elements of?

Couldn't you just use two hoppers one with a filter that prevents the passage of the unfired urn? A piston that is timed to fire and push the unfired urn to the second piston a second or two after the turntable portion ejects the clay ? Or is the hopper so depressed that the urn item will linger despite a piston pushing ? If that is the case then i guess you'll have to use water to push the unfired urn.

Oh man how could I forget filters! Last time I attempted this clay balls were used as filler in the hoppers (it was a while ago), so I guess I was still thinking the old way :)

Thanks man, even though it was simple!

yeah , last time i tested i think there are atleast three different filters that will separate clay balls from unfired clay urns. There may be more filters then that but once you find 3 looking for more is overkill.

Ladder filter :) Won't let any *blocs* in.
Keep the unfired pottery above, let the clay balls in ;)

I've been trying to make one of these.

I saw how you did it, and I attempted that. The clay balls are definitely coming out the back of my setup, now, and the pottery seems to be working (never mind the fact that I needed 9 slabs for the urn for some reason). I can't seem to get an archimides screw to work right. It's just that the items don't seem to want to bump up when both the first and second blocks are both placed. I can't seem to figure out why, since the blocks seem to be dispensing in the right sequence (looks an awful lot like a caterpillar of 2 empty and 2 blocks. You can probably elevate yourself in there if you hold the jump button.) Since yours obviously works, do you have any insight?

Not sure if this should actually go here, but it's kind of relevant . . .

My setup involves, as people mentioned already, 2 hoppers. The first one is positioned directly above a block dispenser, which clumps the balls back together and sends them via piston elevator back onto the turntable. It needs some timer fiddling, but once it works, its sweet to watch it in action :)

You could always piston the clay blocks up instead. That's how my system works. It's got 8 tables and only one block dispenser. which is positioned UNDER them. That's where both the clay recycles and where I fill it in. From there it gets pistoned up and above the tables, once the cycle completes, I push the clay down onto the tables.

The only downside is that there's always some clay stuck in the system.

And therein lies the problem. I used to just have a backwards water slide with pistons to lift them one block at a time, but stuff always gets stuck.

I dunno, sound more like a reading comprehension problem :P.

I've said clay blocks. You can piston those up preeeeetty easily :). Without using messy buggy water mechanics. I could post a picture once I'm back from work - if you're interested.

Why not just use a pulley and platform type elevator?

Big/Messy.

It'll add a minimum 3 blocks to your build height.

Here's how that works, if you don't understand what he meant by using the clay blocs, that's how I made my Nether Kiln a few months ago ;)

Starting ~ 4:00 for the clay bloc part in action :)

Ah, so deploy the block . . .

Could work. A few blocks isn't too big of a deal.

Shame now I can't get that multiMC launcher to work . . .

Though, my system is fed by clay balls most of the time. I can get blocks to work, but is there an easy way to turn them back into items and shove it into a hopper? I'm still kinda new.

I use the same principle as Battosay for my auto-pottery. It works like a charm. Only downside I have is that there's a ton of clay tied up in the machine itself. Link in my sig.

If you don't try to go too big (which is oftenly my problem :p) and only use one Turntable, like I did on the vid above, you don't waste a single clay ball ;)

I guess you're screwed then...

Unless of course you post some pictures and explanation so we might be able to assist with what is wrong.

I'm not entirely sure if the images show properly on here, but you can always open it in a new window/tab or something . . .

I'm currently considering repeater delay issues. Then again, the items (first pic) just don't seem to want to be displaced by the blocks.

Your spoiler just has the word "Image" three times. I'd suggest hopping over to the Tech Support Forum and reading M!C's Forum Manual.

Replace the glass blocks with solid blocks and it should work.

Thank you! Fixed.

What is it about glass that makes Screws not work, anyway?
