Not sure if this is a bug or a feature but it seems to be inconsistent so I'd guess bug:
Snow golems don't drop any xp when you kill them with e.g. a sword or a bow but if they die due to being in a desert or in the Nether they drop a dragon orb.

Fixed for next release.
Just out of curiosity before I close this down though: were you able to get any actual XP off of those Orbs?
I believe what was happening is that Dragon Orbs containing zero xp were being created. I doubt processing and collecting them would have provided any actual XP.

I didn't try before but no, they don't seem to actually contain any xp (I tried putting 5 orbs from them into a powered soulsand hopper and got nada).
