June 16, 1816, rather than face the prospect of another boring threesome, a young woman asked herself the questions "what if modern science discovered a way to reanimate the dead? How would that affect the world? What would happen to the first reanimated being?"
Mary Shelley wrote down that story of the scientist, a man named Frankenstein, and his creation. Thus the field of speculative science fiction was born. Happy 200th birthday, science fiction. May you continue to inspire, and caution, for many more.
