Potential List of Discarded/Discussed Feature Ideas

Rejected Feature Suggestions


The purpose of this thread is to collect all of the suggested features from the old forum that FC decided not to include. Basically, if you have an idea for a new feature for Better Than Wolves, you can check this list to see if it has already been discussed and rejected.

So far, I've found that every reasonable suggestion that FlowerChild has rejected was accompanied by careful consideration and discussion. So if your idea is on this list, its probably best to assume that bringing it up again won't change FC's mind. To get a better idea of the thinking behind these decisions, you can check out this topic about Minecraft and the BTW Philosophy.

Also, jamestully22 (author of the Un-Official Suggestion topic) is planning on adding all of the original posts about these suggestions into a list, so you could check out the exact discussion that took place.

CURRENTLY AT PAGE: 112/480 (only going up until the time that this forum began)
Since the things posted on this list are going up in chronological order from the beginning of the old MCForum topic, there will be a number of items that have been changed at a later date. Also, there are a few things in the rejected list that would more appropriately be called 'back-burner' topics that FC appeared interested in, but only after the grand designs are up and running. But I figure that bringing them up again won't really accomplish much either, since FC's already aware of them.

One that I know of is the lens, which I believe needs to wait for the next tech tree in order to be implemented. It would allow detector blocks to "see" farther than just right in front of them.

I guess it would be up to the elite, but it seems to me that it would be a bit lost in the general discussion and submission stuff. But, as I say, elite word is law.

Hate to self-bump, but after seeing how long this is going to take (just on page 21 of the original forum) I want to make sure that this is something that would be needed, even if the content will be moved over to another topic.

Just a couple of clarifications on your list (which I think is a great idea btw):

The Lens/Laser/Light Detector/and focused redstone torch are all part of the same integrated design now, which is: The Lens.

The Fence Gate is still a possibility (but a very low priority).

Everything else in the potential/planned category has been rejected or dropped.

I was actually planning on putting out a list in the Official Announcements of the features I already have announced and still plan to do. I hesitated from doing such a thing in the old thread since it didn't exactly fit in the OP, and would have just gotten lost if I posted it normally. But here, it makes a lot more sense.

Anyways, until I get the official list done, here's a few more thing you can add to yours as "planned":

-Minecart rails being lifted on platforms.
-Powering the Water Wheel with water that falls from above, along the sides of the wheel.
-Various alternate recipes that use the wood bits produced by the saw to provide cheaper alternatives to the existing ones.
-A change to the Saw recipe that moves it further up on the tech tree (i.e. requires a component not yet in the mod).

Those are all the ones that spring to mind at present, although I may have forgotten a couple :)

Oh yeah, and I already announced that they'll be a new recipe for the Block Dispenser in the next release that will use less Mossy Cobble, and that I'd be changing a number of recipes in the mod to use smooth stone instead of cobble as well.

I know that some of the items in that list are already implemented in other mods.

Changing sign messages with redstone and a whole lot of other dynamic sign info is available with the Sign Tags mod by Risugami (the creator of ModLoader). Risugami has also made a light sensor. These are both on his forum thread.

There is a vertical redstone mod here.

There is a mod for half doors and fence gates here. It also makes double doors open together by just clicking on them, so you don't need to make a weird circuit.

Alright, back from work and decided that I'll start reorganizing the OP right now, rather than waiting until all the ideas from the old forum have been brought over. I'm planning on prettying up the intro so as to state the purpose and concept behind the topic, separate the rejected list into broad categories (such as redstone circuits, cement, light blocks, misc. etc), and take out the planned/potential category once Flower's official list is up. Hopefully, this will let people search through the available content with much more convenience while the list is being filled.

You forgot my rejected idea of adding cement to the recipe for turning 4 intem bricks into a brick block (because there's cement in the texture of the final product).

Less mossy for bd and smoothstone in other recipes has been implemented and could be removed from the planned features section of the OP.

Yeah, still have a lot of the old stuff to go through, but I'll throw that one up now.

And I'll get rid of the potential/planned stuff that was included in the latest update.

Alright, getting back to work with the list after a few days of IRL stuff and playing MC. Decided to finally get my hands dirty with redstone (but trying to learn by trial and error rather than looking up tutorials), and just got the first crop from my first hemp auto-farm. Probably pretty unimpressive but I'm proud of it nonetheless.
Also, until the list of original suggestions posts is completed, I can do my best to explain why these suggestions were rejected or put on the backburner if anyone has questions.
