Share your memorable deaths?

I figured it might be fun to see what deaths stand out to other people. I've been dying a whole lot more with the new update but it's been great fun. This one from my stream tonight definitely had the best surprise factor.
On my new world, 2/3 deaths are due to wolf ambushes. They're out to kill me.

Death #2 I got insanely lucky and spawned almost exactly in the same place I died. I ended up rage quitting then realized I didn't actually sign off: https://youtu.be/kQj9NEMjFPc?t=1561

I have definitely almost died a couple times to wolf ambushes as well.

I think I end up killing myself more than anything, usually doing the most inane things. Some notable ones:

- Drowned myself in my own water wheel

- Dug below me into lava

- Incinerated myself on a hibachi

- Starved myself while digging out my auto kiln and didn't have the mats to get back out as I couldn't jump

- Whacked a pigman while trying to carve out a mob grinder

I am definitely my own worst enemy :)

My favourite death story happened on a coop game.
I was safely diging a stairway to bedrock with my typical 5x5 shaft and I intersected an abandoned mineshaft. As tired to block it a creeper came out after me and a panicked and ran upstairs while telling my friend to go back up. He also panicked but instead of runing up the stairs, he started swinging his diamond sword. the result was me being launched back into the creeper and exploded to pieces. When I came back to the base I built a small monument to remeber his treason.

I've starved to death before, it sucked. I can't imagine doing it in your own base though, I bet that was maddening xD

When I came back to the base I built a small monument to remember his treason.

See, I even knew that they did that, I was just more focused on making a frantic shelter and getting food than I was about flammability. That's part of what makes it so stupid :)

My most memorable death happened back when there was the big BTW co-op server. Tom Savage and I were in the nether at a nether fortress farming wither skeletons for head. I was in full SFS wielding a battle axe as was he. When backing away from wither skeletons towards a low roof area we were set upon by a blaze that caught us by surprise. I don't remember exactly what happened but I ended up dead and Tom was alive. On that server I knew most of the HC spawn radius and was instantly sprinting back towards home knowing that I could easily make it on my hunger.

So I'm talking to Tom on voice chat and he's going to grab my stuff and stash it in a box till I get back when I hear him say "Uh... we have a problem..." He finds himself blocked from the area to which he wants to go by a wither skeleton in full plate and wielding a battle axe. Bastard had equipped my armor and weapon. Tom wasn't positioned well to lead the wither skeleton to cover and after trying unsuccessfully to kill it while staying safe he decided it wasn't worth the armor and bonked the wither skeleton off the edge of a platform down into the lava below. It's one of my favorite BTW stories and favorite memory of playing with Tom in any game. He and I had a falling out so that good memory of a time past is extra special to me.

I was remodeling my base mid-game. I picked up most of my tech items - hibachis, cauldron, crucible, axles, gearboxes, water wheel, turntables etc. I was planning on rearranging my base to make it work better. So, I had all of these great BTW blocks I had spent days and weeks working for. I had built right under my base. So, for some reason I decided to dig up. There was a dirt block there. Which back then was no big deal. What I didn't know was that there was a gravel block on top of that. And that gravel block was on the surface. And on that surface block of gravel was a slime.

So, dirt block broken, gravel falls as does the slime. In my panic I recall somehow I clicked so oddly I brought up Excel somehow. When it registered what happened and I was dead, that was just a shock. I spawned, looking around hopefully. Hoping I was close to my base to retreive all of my items. I guessed a direction. I was wrong. All my items gone.

Later in the game I figured out I had spawned to the south of my base maybe ~1000 or so blocks away

I didn't even hear the warning hiss.
Just minding my own business on a sunny afternoon and *BOOM!* had a creeper sneak up behind.

Good news: Survived the blast with half a heart.

Bad news: The blast launched me about 4-5 blocks into the air.

Not a death, but I was walking home to base around dusk, when a creeper snuck up on me. I hear the hiss, I jump away, it explodes as I'm in mid-air and it launches me on top of a tree. Here I'm sitting on top of a tree with one heart, no way to jump down from the tree without dying, as the world slowly goes dark. Pretty funny stuff

Today I died to Cobwebs

It's late in the night the moon is already setting, the last porkchop just finished. While standing near the fire in my cave sorting my inventory for the day to come, I hear a spider shooting his web. I think to me "he can't get through the 1 wide entrance" and "yay free string", as I suddenly catch on fire. Exiting the inventory and getting out of the burning the cobweb just took to long.
The spiders win again, this time even without laying a leg on me...

Well, I just had a frigging heart attack. Not quite dead, BUT:

Was just in my hidey hole, nowhere near water when I heard a "thwap!". Confused, I thought "was that a squid? Nah, it can't be..." so I took a look outside through the 1 block hole I had left at the entrance.

THWAP!

The tentacle couldn't yank me out through the hole, but it did hurl me right into my campfire, where I promptly burst into flames.

Not quite dead yet, I'm now cringing in the corner of my hidey hole totally freaked out, and with an incredibly fashion forward zombie waiting for me outside.

Yeah, I wonder. I don't think I've seen anything quite like this before, and I know I've been putting some attention into adding potential for emergent gameplay recently, so I guess that's paying off.

When gameplay appears that even manages to surprise me, I think I must be doing something right :)

Seriously, hats off for Zombies Hatsies. I had seen that line of text in the updates a while back but didn't really register it (Does anyone remember Booties for Wolfsies? That was fake, though. Right? RIGHT?). Yikes.

It's nightfall a few hours into spawn; I've got oven and chisel and have blocked myself into a hole - about six levels above ground level into an isosceles hill in a plains+loose forest, which looks right out into the mouth of a small river. I keep seeing squid at night, but I ignore them as the water is largely only 3-4 deep. No big. I have plenty of meat, and tomorrow I'll go mine some known iron deposits to progress to a hoe. Both my "door" and my side exit, which looks out onto the river, are 1.5 high openings, as I just slapped dirt slabs into an entryway. "I think I'll turn that side exit into a fishing outpost, with these stone slabs and new fishing rod."

I hear a strange "thwap." I suppose the squids are swimming around again. No matter, I won't go far. Peek out the door, and I see it- a zombie hatsie. I'm confused, but remember the patch notes, and then I chuckle. Cute and quirky. It's not like a single one of either of those mobs is very dangerous, and its a good 20 blocks away and 5 down anyway. I start dropping stone slabs to make my pier. And suddenly, it's there - looking in the 1.5 and making the most horrible sounds.

All hell breaks loose. I don't know what abilities this thing has but it's a zombie with Reach and I am not having that. The tentacles keep reaching for me and flinging me into the air, and I can't be sure the 1.5 will stop me leaving my base sideways in a tentacle's grasp. I frantically break dirt and run for it, away from the abomination. I live. I am shaken.

I had one that gave me a quick WTF!? and then a solid spell of laughter.

I was pretty fresh on a hardcore spawn. I had clay drying for my oven ... so I was starting to gear up, but was still very much at the bottom of the food chain. Anyway, I digress. I was cooking meat over my fire, and accidentally stepped on the flame. That took me down a few health pips. For whatever crazy reason, I elected to break one of my dirt blocks to get a peak at how close it was to day. Unfortunately, there was a cow right outside my tiny hole. The little fucker spooked, kicked me straight into my fire, and killed me.

I think the message was "August West burned to a crisp while fighting a cow".

That was a new one for me. Sometimes deaths are a little frustrating. It was quite cool to experience one that just left me laughing and wanting more.
