I'd been working under the assumption for the past 3 or 4 years that the only way to extract pumpkin seeds from pumpkins was through the "smashing" process (dropping them from sufficiently high). All of my bases included a tower or hole that I would use for pretty much this purpose exclusively.

But just now, I accidentally put one in my crafting window... and lo and behold, it can be crafted into 4 seeds. *facepalm* I'm still learning things about this mod.

That's just supposed to help you automate it. Or drop it on people's heads on mp, I guess :P

To be honest, I forgot smashing them was even a thing since I've been crafting them for so long...

Everybody needs more smashing pumpkins.
