I didn't manage to grab a screenshot of this, but I'd highly recommend walking along seashores near the aquatic hats. Also, apparently a good plate helm will protect you from being eaten by hats.
It never felt right that squids hats were totally passive in vanilla, especially with their mouths. Props :)
The squid... they've mobilized their forces. It's not safe in the water. Listen - if anyone finds this entry, don'
Do not worry, land-walker. Jump in the river and stand still. Perhaps hug a squid for company, they are your friend, and would certainly never think of eating your brains and controlling your body. Nope. Not at all.
for the first time i resisted the spoiler thread and I discovered this all on my own.
Just some information on the subject that i've found: they actually target you. it isn't just a passive attack when you get too close. THEY ARE HUNTING US!!!
Two feet standing on a principle
Two hands longing for each others warmth
Cold smoke seeping out of colder throats
Darkness falling, leaves nowhere to go

Can anybody else confirm this. I would not have discovered this feature at all. Squid do not seem to track me i have actually moved my Steve into the same space without a attachment. The only way i was able to provoke an attack was to attack a squid first.
Hehe...it goes a little beyond tracking. I invested a lot of work into their behavior to make them a fully featured mob (more fully featured than most vanilla ones actually), and I still have some more work I want to do on them that I had to triage for last release as I ran out of energy in the final stretch.
actually, the way they target is amazing, I'm not entirely sure why they target yet (swimming too deep? getting too close? hunger like the wolves? do they attack anything else?) but when one targets you, ALL OF THEM TARGET AT ONCE!!!
btw Flowerchild, do you plan to alter the point of view thing with squids so that it isn't cheaty? I feel like I'm cheating when i do that to escape from drowning

Can you be more specific about what you're referring to?

If he's referring to 3rd person, it's fine as is IMO. The gameplay effects largely revolve around how the squid limit your mobility rather than the visibility reduction. It blinds and disorients people at least temporarily unless they have the presence of mind to switch to third person, and limiting third person would also eliminate the possibility of people wandering around with their new hats just for fun, especially in SMP.
So yeah, I don't really consider it a cheat to switch the camera in this case. I knew it was possible and designed it to work as is.
Every update.... my GF will scream... "Oh i hate that FC!! Scumbag FC! That jerk... what is he thinking? why does he has to make playing this game feels like a torture?" Then i'll update the game, and she'll dive into it, screaming curses at you.... but never once did she stop playing, lol
(Can't wait for her to see this spoiler thread, especially the 'headware' screenshot)... can just imagine her reaction...
So there you go, FC... i think u're making my GF losing her sanity....
So I'm hanging out building a path down to the water at night. And this bloody blue thing flies across my screen and scares the crap out of me. Turns out a squid was attacking me for no reason. Next thing I know I'm pulled into the water and I have a squid on my head....
