Poetry Tag

Post by TaterBoy »

Let's play a game shall we?
I've been playing this particular game for close to 10 years now, it's called Poetry Tag. If you are a poet that is active on various web-based poetry communities, I'm sure you've heard of it.

The rules are simple:
"Tag" someone, that person is "it" and has to write an impromptu poem on the topic/title you provide.
After they have submitted their poem, they can then tag someone else and keep the chain going.
My only real rule/request is that there be no negative critique, you may discuss any facet of a poem you like, but above all be courteous and avoid sounding harsh. This is a game for amateur and seasoned poets alike, with no strictures about meter or rhyme.

Post your name in a reply if you would like to be added to the roster and I'll include you in a list on the OP so that people can easily see who is interested in being tagged.

Edit: Rule Revision -
I'm preserving the previous description so people can see the way the game is conventionally played, but for the purposes of streamlining on the forum, I'm going to make an amendment to the rules.
If a topic is left unanswered by the "tagged" person for a whole day, that topic is fair game for everyone, in this case multiple poets taking the same topic is also fine. (no puns about poetic ninjas mind you!)
So basically, instead of one person being it and tagging someone...We'll have kind of a free-for-all Poetry Tag Battle Royale

Twilight's caress, the evening's breath
the frosty air, my rime-laden hair,
rushing through icy streets.

There, aware,
a whisp of darkness flits
between leaning stucco and slanting bricks.

My pounding heart and the slap of shoes
on slippery cobblestone
oh so far from home.

The sun has slipped away,
and inky night bleeds forth:
is birthed from the day.

People are out upon this lonely night,
but their eyes avert and ignore my plight.

"It's come for me, that shadow, you see?!?"
"Lousy maddened fool away with ye!"
Won't anyone help me please?

The whisp of shadow is gaining now,
upon the veins of street
away from the center of town.

Stumbling and falling: it is upon me!
And, as I struggle and twist and turn,
I meet its abyssal gaze and see
The shadow, in fact, is me.

In my taste buds, I had an itch
for a sandwich that was perfect to the edge
I was tagged, so I made sure that this rhymed
when I returned, the sandwich I could not find
turns out someone had put it back in the fridge

There once was a man on tv,
his devoutness was plain to see!
He shouted and yelled, saved others from hell,
but unfortunately couldn't save me!

I desperately wanted it to rhyme, and it ended up a little depressing :D

"Yeah this sounds fun" said I,
hoping my pride will not fry.
And whilst i did program,
my mind is now flotsam,
a welcome distraction this'l be.

Step A's to get a bone, my friend.
B is "Get another", see, it's a trend.
Step C, if I may be so bold,
Is to include a wolf into your fold.

Step D means there's a hole to dig,
make sure it's square and six blocks big.
Decore it with a slab and water under it.
There you place your wolf and make it sit.

Make sure the hole is dark and dank,
connect it to a dung collection tank,
toss in some flesh to make it shit.
Wolves in this mod? Well, that should be it.

Dung all on my face

For my sanity

The wardrobe in my bedroom looks strange,
But somehow, I don´t want it to change.
It was from my friend, as a present.
I heared a whisper: "OBEY, and come in my friend!"
That was the time, to the hell I was sent.

In the flames I´m burning and crying.
I woke up. In the bed I´ve been lying.
I was happy that it was just in my mind.
And the whisper again, now with a small wind.
"I showed you you´re fate, not all, but a hint"

Cats and Dogs

Perched upon my pedestal,
The definition of elegance,
I am always looking downward,
At the fool who chases his tail,

This ignorance cannot be accidental,
Thus the reason for my resistance,
Distracted so, I cannot move forward,
But in the end, I will not fail.

Deafened by incoherent barks,
The hair stands on my back,
A deft strike, blood is drawn,
The yelp of pain gives satisfaction,

Reasonable violent remarks,
Revenge for what I feel is an attack,
I am content enough to yawn,
Then return to my relaxation.

One might accuse me of pretension,
Or that I have a trivial pursuit,
Further still that the folly is mine,
Worse, that this flaw is subjective,

To do what must be done is my intention,
I'd rather serve myself, than be a brute,
For hurt feelings, I will never pine,
Or leave safe a mistake which is elective.

-End-
