-Changed mobs to be able to spawn in 1-block high gaps if their body shape allows it. This mainly applies to the various types of spiders, but also prevents exploiting certain block shapes to create player walkable areas that mobs can't spawn in.
now you can make spider only, slime only and bat only mob traps

Aha, so you're talking of a 'small slime' mob trap

That's still not a slime only trap. You will always get both slimes and spiders (bats only spawn below sea level I believe, and swamp slimes only spawn above sea level). Plus a trap that only spawns small slimes would not be as efficient as one that can spawn all types of slimes. A small slime trap would get 1/3 less slimes (since spawn attempt would fail when choosing a bigger slime), and the slime balls per slime would go down considerably.

we didn't talk about efficiency of a slime trap in swamp. swamp slime spawn is influenced by moon also, so it will never be worth to build alone. swamp traps are for witch warts. if you need a proper slime trap build it in a slime chunk, they spawn always no matter light level and moon.
@dawnraider come on, could you think outside the box a bit. you can make the trap without spiders spawning

I think efficiency is important to consider. If you want to build a slime only trap, even if it is technically possible in a swamp if it's considerably worse than a slime chunk one, then why consider it? Just build a general trap in a swamp, and a dedicated slime one in a slime chunk.
ion wrote:@dawnraider come on, could you think outside the box a bit. you can make the trap without spiders spawning
I imagine you could do it using a tube with rings that are 1 block deep and 1 block spacing between them.

But again... Care to elaborate on what you meant? Making such claims is nice and all, but the point of these discussions is to share ideas and discuss them. Saying something exists but then not actually talking about it isn't productive for anyone.

Here's what I was talking about for the swamp one: https://imgur.com/P2nGFVN

And here's my in progress slime chunk farm in my survival world: https://imgur.com/7AcppIb

I haven't made the killing room for my slime chunk farm, but I suspect I'll need 3 rows of saws because slimes can push themselves through blocks when they split.

Haven't ever built one, but based on my calculations, pretty bad.

That design makes the bigger slimes, where most of your slime balls will come from, not able to spawn (which in reality means that 2/3 of the spawn attempts fail). You end up going from 4.33 balls per slime average, to 1 ball per slime average, and 1/3 of those slimes have their spawn fail, so actually .33 when you compare. (How I got these is shown below)

To compare spawn rates, you have to take into account the difference in the chance of failure between slime chunk and swamp slimes, and the moon phase for swamps. Slime chunk spawns have a 10% chance of success, while swamps have a 50% chance of success on a full moon, which goes down to a 0% chance on new moons. This leads to an average success rate of 25%. Slimes in swamps are also affected by light level, but since it will always be at 0 in a mob trap that can be ignored.

Since swamp slimes on average spawn 2.5x more often than slime chunk slimes, that brings the weighted slime ball rate to 4.33 in slime chunks and .833 in swamp, for said slime exclusive trap.

=====================

Slime ball rates:
-Assume all slimes will split into 3 and small slimes drop 1 ball, since they drop at 2-4 and 0-2 consecutively

Swamp trap:
- Small slime (1/3 chance): average 1
- Medium slime (1/3 chance): average 0 (since spawns always fail)
- Large slime (1/3 chance): average 0
Total average: .33

Chunk trap:
- Small slime (1/3 chance): average 1
- Medium slime (1/3 chance): average 3
- Large slime (1/3 chance): average 9
Total average: 4.33

Finally finished designing my urn spinner. It takes clay in the top and outputs fired urns at the bottom, waterless, and within a 9x10x13 space. It took several hours and a lot of infuriating piston connectivity but I got it working. I did end up using a lot of lenses to help keep everything as compact as possible.

I was going to upload the map then I totally forgot to do it.

Here's my full test world, which requires the deco addon. Lots of blocks will be missing otherwise:
Full test world
I've had this world for like 6 years (pre hardcore hunger) so it's got a lot of stuff in it. Right now the player is on the side with my new stuff, but it is roughly linear in age being built out.

Here's a fresh world with just the urn spinner with deco blocks replaced. I cannot guarantee it will work because I had to replace blocks in the block dispensers which may have messed up the saved position:
Urn spinner only

Also, my latest design for an automatic reed farm: https://imgur.com/a/0mfeZc4

I haven't built it in survival because I need to collect a lot more resources first.

@Battosay

This is just beautiful work on such a big scale! I see you could not resist that lava for a location! The flow redirect is nice!

I especially like the looming torchlit scalpted hill with the perfect night time skybox.

My bases make me feel happy but to see this build it is like your own biome.

Wonder how many work place deaths there were in construction or are you that meticulous?

Definitely ! That was the first world I created when I came back to BTW with Animageddon, with a random seed, and when I saw such a high lava source at spawn I liked it. Then I looked to the side and saw an even higher water source (pretty distant though), and I loved it more (I later found out that there's a decently high water lake inside the mountain as well !). But then I went into the Nether, and right next to my portal I saw a Fortress ! I didn't even had to go in at first, there were Blaze spawning close to me since I was in the Nether fortress chunks !
So when my save file got definitely corrupted after a bad crash (GC died), I decided to extract the seed from the file and restart a new world with that same seed. It made it a bit more bearable to have to redo everything after loosing it all a day after I made it to the Nether.
Replaying on the same world made it an interesting experience though, because in the first iteration of the world I died dozens of time, getting to enjoy the discovery of the new early game mechanics I was discovering (my last playthrough of the game dating from before all the early game changes), and it took me quite over 100 hours (probably 200) to get to the Nether, leaving a lot of nomadic lil' camps everywhere until I finally made it back to spawn (where I wanted to settle).
So in the second iteration of the world I had all this knowledge of the land, I knew very well how my world was at spawn and in a circle of 2-3 biomes around it, I was playing safe and circling around spawn at the early stage to gather food and surface iron, never going caving until I had a full set of iron armor and tools, and managed to only die once (pushing too far too fast in a mineshaft, when I should have walled myself for 5min and go grab a drink) before getting diamond (different ones than in the 1st world, I loved the rush I got when I finally found some and forbid myself to go to the same ravine in the 2nd version).
Since then I died
- being launched into a lava lake by an evil cow I didn't saw while killing a chicken (the bitch ran towards me to throw me into the lava before running away !)
- getting frustrated building with cobble and clay and not being able to sneak and apply the clay. I tried to place 4 cobble before trying to apply the clay on 'em, was still sneaking so it didn't work, then panicked realizing I was standing on loose cobble above lava (building that redirect you mentioned ^^), and fell to my death along my loose cobble nemesis
- being a bit careless once placing a torch, burning a bunch of the floor in my base, allowing a zombie to spawn inside while I went on a bathroom break lol
- building my farm above the water a bit too late on a gloomy night, after falling into water so no lit torches (nor wood) on me, and while crawling on the shore in terror back to light, being pulled into the water by a lovely hat (1st time I yelled out loud of terror when playing lol)
- and a frustrating death while building my elevator, getting stuck in a block when the elevator went down, not able to move or do anything, so I left the game and came back in only to fall to my death :/

Oh and worth mentioning :
- I survived with 1 heart when 1st going into the Nether (getting a portal right into the nether fortress' chunks has its downsides too, like entering the Nether facing 3 Blazes, 2 Wither Skelly and some Ghasts :D). It took me 2 or 3 hours of intense fights (interrupted by 5min of nothingness walled-in to regen every 10min :/) to secure my portal. After that I decided, no more Nether until I get a brewery stand and start making potions !

Sorry about the GC loss.

Wow! The best death stories! Remind me very much of my own workplace incidents; I don't have nearly the assortment you do, mine tend to revolve around hibachi mishaps :P

That sounds like and incredible seed especially with the fortress!

After an absurd amount of time put into my world I finally got to steel, so I decided to come back and pretty up the access to the stronghold. It both works as a HC spawn shelter and a stepping point for assaulting the stronghold.

I still have to work on the bottom of the cow building, I wanna try to squeeze in my sugar cane farm in there.

Dang Batto. That's pretty sweet. Also totally jealous you've got a high water and lava source within spawn.
