Am I the only one who has never encountered a mine shaft?

Post by Mason11987 »

I've been playing with BTW and BTB for a while now (I also have some BC add-ons) and I have yet to see a mineshaft at all. I can't imagine either of these mods are causing any issue there but how can I verify that I didn't stupidly set generate structures off?

I need watermelons :)

Have you encounted a npc village or stronghold?
if yes you have got generated structures on so u may have to go far to find a mineshaft try going 500 blocks from your normal mine and try there in every direction
otherwise the seed may be crap lol

It's possible to find them. You just have to look carefully, sometimes. How deep have you been digging? Most abandoned mineshafts are generated between y 10 and 30, mostly around the 20 mark. Dig a pit down to y 16, and then start digging tunnels in each direction until you encounter on. That, and you'll net plenty of iron, redstone, and gold in the process.

I've encountered a stronghold by accident in an old test map.

I've never seen a village or a mineshaft.

Some semi recent version of vMC has made them way less frequent, yeah. Most of the ones I've found have been under deserts but that might have been coincidence.

I dont know I have noticed larger amounts of coal under a desert that any other biom. and while putting in a elevator found a 60 - 70 block high ravine that multiple mineshafts all merges there. it could be that different bioms generate different amounts of ors / shaft concentrations. But I couldn't say with any 100% certainty thought.

Literally 2 hours after I posted that, I run into an underground ravine while mining, which, to my surprise, intersected with an abandoned mineshaft.

Roll back to 1.8 or whichever version they were introduced, you couldn't dig 30 blocks without hitting one, made lighting up the underground such a pain if you wanted an efficient mob grinder.
