How to Correctly Install BTB v3.26 with Pictures MC 1.2.5 :)

Post by walker_boh_65 »

I have decided to make yet another install guide to help the community. Hope you this one helps you just as much as the others have.

PLEASE READ I am sick of all the problem that people have installing with Magic Launcher. I WILL NOT be answering any questions about an install with Magic Launcher. Either install it manually or with MCpatcher to get any help.

Also, I cannot believe I have to say this but BTB IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH MINECRAFT FORGE

NOTE 1: It seems that some achieving programs (including the built-in one for macs) actually overriding the forge folder that both BTW and BTB have (to be dragged and dropped into the jar). The way around this is to either
a: get a different program such as 7zip or WinRaR
or
b: open up the forge folder of BTB and drag the contents of it into the folder in the minecraft.jar

NOTE 2: If you are installing with the MCPatcher make sure that the mods are listed in the following order (Just to be safe, although it doesn't really need to have this exact order anymore):
Spoiler
Show
Modloader
BTW
Buildcraft Core
Buildcraft Builders
Buildcraft Energy
Buildcraft Factory
Buildcraft Transport
Buildcraft Silicon
BTB
If you are also installing Optifine, be sure to un-check HD Textures (along with HD font, Better Grass should work just fine) before you patch your minecraft.
If you are having an error please post the following information regardless of last port in the thread (Info in the spoiler)
Spoiler
Show
All mods that you are using
The version of all installed mods
Your modloader.txt (inside of a spoiler please because it can get quite lengthy)
Your modloader.txt can be found in you .minecraft folder here:
Image
The most important part of installing any mods is to start with a clean install. To do this I recommend deleting your whole .minecraft folder (found by searching for %appdata%), but be sure to BACK UP YOUR SAVES FIRST.

Next open up the following URLs (I suggest different tabs for greater ease):
Modloader
BTW
BC
BTB

Click on the download links for each mod:
Modloader 1.2.5 (First set of links):

BTW 3.72 (Only link in the OP):

BC 3.1.5 (All 6 parts listed):

BTB 3.26 (First link in the OP):

Open up your bin folder. This is a sub-folder found in the .minecraft folder.
Then open up your minecraft.jar with an archiving program such as WinRaR or 7zip
Spoiler

DELETE THE META-INF FOLDER!
Spoiler
Show

Now on to adding the mods to the jar.

First open the ModLoader-1.zip and drag and drop the contents into the minecraft.jar:
Spoiler

Open up the BTWMod3-72.zip and open up the folder called MINECRAFT-JAR:
Spoiler

Select everything in that sub-folder and drag and drop it into the jar:
Spoiler
Show
Image
Open up the BTBMod3-26.zip and open the folder called MINECRAFT-JAR:
Spoiler
Show
Image
Then add the contents of that folder to the jar file:
Spoiler
Show
Image
Go back to the .minecraft folder and create a new folder.
Spoiler
Show
Image
Name this folder "mods" (minus the quotation marks):
Spoiler
Show
Image
Open up any of the 6 Buildcraft zips and go back a level (you can also save these to another location and accomplish the same thing).
Spoiler
Show
Image
Select all of the buildcraft zips (should be 6) and drag them into the mods folder:
Spoiler
Show
Image
Close out of everything and launch Minecraft.
You know can play the awesomeness which is Better Then Buildcraft.
Enjoy.

And if you like this guide, would you please let me know. I love hearing from the readers of this guide.

Good stuff, thank you for making this.

I didn't need it, but I'm sure there are many who do. Figured I'd throw a thanks your way anyway.

I decided to try BTB after all, but after installing twice it doesn't seem to work...where am I wrong?
I installed all mods on the JAR, except BuildCraft (which is in the mods folder).

I installed all 5. Replaced files whenever asked, if that matters.

Are you using MC patcher or doing it manually?

Do I need to install the other BC parts afterwards or before?

I'm not sure what happening (I don't have a lot of BC error experience) but it looks like the core is not being found by BTB/Modloader. You said you are installing it in the mods folder, so I'm not sure why you are getting this error. Sorry I can't be of more help.

On second thought, it might matter the order in which you install the mods. Try using the order I have, should work just fine then.

Ninryu, can you give any details of where it's going wrong. In my experience if you're having general issues. Go one step at a time. Install the mod in step 1. (Which off the top of my head I believe is mod-loader.) Delete the META-INF, and launch minecraft. If it works, close minecraft and install the next mod. This will let you figure out which mod is causing the issue. I've installed so many mods/skins/etc. in games, I just have an innate knowledge of what is going wrong if it is. With no specifics, I'd say clean your minecraft folders (save the "saves" and "textures" folders, as those don't need to be removed and also save the the "LastLogin" file) and do the install again from step one.

I can only help you if you help me. If you can give me a modloader.txt I can do my best to help you out.

Slightly off topic but yet, not really: I am going to add a section to the OP about posting your errors, so we can help people easier with out having to ask for more info each time.

Ok, maybe you guys can help me. I have posted this on the main forum a couple of times with no working solution. I have completely re-installed Minecraft, installed the mods exactly in the order and method as shown in the OP (delete META-INF, put the files from Modloader, ModloaderMP, BTW, and BTB into the .jar in that order, then the five buildcraft .zips into the mods folder). I have done this at least six times and it still won't work.

I noticed that BTW and BC transport aren't showing up on the report, but I installed both of these in the manner that the OP says. Also, though I tried it with TMI this time, I get the exact same report when I don't install TMI (except, of course, TMI isn't listed as one of the mods loaded).

Check your mods folder to make sure transport is in there, and re-install BTW and BTB. There's no reason it wouldn't be seeing those mods if they're installed correctly :)

The main think I can think of is that you did not use the contents of the MINECRAFT-JAR folder in the BTW zip.
And you can install with TMI without any problems.

Just to add to the discussion here, why are we using the manual install method for BC? I used the installer file and it worked perfectly fine for me.

--- END ERROR REPORT 7debba39 ----------
I noticed that BTW and BC transport aren't showing up on the report, but I installed both of these in the manner that the OP says. Also, though I tried it with TMI this time, I get the exact same report when I don't install TMI (except, of course, TMI isn't listed as one of the mods loaded).

I bolded the parts that say that BTW and BC transport failed to load, but other than that can't make sense of it. Any help would be appreciated!
Check your mods folder to make sure transport is in there, and re-install BTW and BTB. There's no reason it wouldn't be seeing those mods if they're installed correctly :)
While I was installing it, I stopped after installing Modloader, ModloaderMP, and BTW and started up Minecraft. It worked well, and I quickly went into creative mode and saw that all of the BTW items were on the creative "inventory" (as well as in TMI). Also transport is in the mods folder. As for BTB, I will try installing it again.

EDIT: Re-installed BTB and got the same error message.

I never like to use installers, I prefer to do things the manual way. So only really a personal preference.

@InfinityLink (don't feel like shorting the quote, sue me)
When you installed BTB to the jar, did you also install BC to the mods folder? It is needed in order to run.

Yeah, I did that.

I understand, I'm usually that way too, but the BC installing was nice so I didn't mix it up with any other mods. Maybe considering adding it to the opening post as an alternative install method for BC?

@InfinityLink: from the crash report, it seems like you are missing one of the .class files in the forge subfolder from the MINECRAF-JAR folder in BTW. More specifically ITextureProvider.class

Since you say that MC runs fine after you install BTW, but before you install BTB, it might seem like your archiving program might be overwriting that folder instead of merging it? Try verifying that the forge folder in your minecraft.jar contains the combined content of both the forge folder in BTW and in BTB after you've installed them both.

Added a little bit about that to the OP. As well as added that issue to the overriding forge folder issue that has come up.
Nice Catch Elensaar.
I added what I think should work as a workaround.
