Castle Build - progress display [UPDATE: 20/09]

Post by FaceFoiled »

Hiya all! :)

The BTW mod finally allows me to build a proper castle, the way castle's are intended - awesomely! :) With this in mind I started a new build, and am recording in between sessions with the progress. I thought it might interest others to see the progress as well, so I will update this thread every few days with a new video. (If this is frowned upon, then simply delete the thread or lock it, to let me know ^_^).

If you have any feedback or suggestions regarding the castle build, please feel free to let me know.

I use fraps to record, and windows live movie maker to edit slightly and upload. I'll try to do something about the gamma ratio and sound (its a bit soft).
I hope you enjoy it! :)

For the map download please check out my Youtube video channel as I keep that up to date with the link to the latest download. :)

Update: 20/09
With teh 1.8 update I am currently pausing the Castle build, as I am now focussing on the 1.8 server I am running "Edolas". As this is my Castle build thread, I won't update the videos here, at least not yet. Feel free to check my youtube channel for the new stuff though! =)

I do have some other plans for underwater construction though, which will be uploaded at some point... ^_^

Basically: instead having a bridge hiding underwater, it will be a "roof" hiding under water. It will drop down to close a roof on a hidden walkway, to remove the water access, and allow for people to walk in it. :)

Now to fix that gap problem you chould put a 1xhowever long the gap is peice of wood. It whouldent be magical but it whould work. OR you chould put a bridge lower then the bridge end point and have it come up while the main parts go down

I've toyed with the idea of doing something similar with the finite water mod, but instead pumping in/draining out water as opposed to raising/lowering a roof.
Abracadabra, you're an idiot.

Regarding the gap, it should be fixable I think. Have you tried having the anchors next to each other and not with a blocks width between them?
For my hidden staircase, the pulleys were connected like this:

and when lowered it looks like this:

So the gap should be something that can be avoided if you want ;)

That staircase is a serious win.

If anyone would care to make a replica Airship and place said stair mechanic in the underbelly.....That would look amazing. It would fit perfectly.

Where are u from man u sound a bit Dutch :P

But anyways all stuff is looking good man just to point out i have a similar bridge and i dont have any gaps because i do it like this

Code: Select all

--^----^--
So with that i am just utilizing the 5 block limit by putting the anchors in the middle of a 5 long platform bit.
I could agree that it doesn't look as good as using 4 anchor/pulleys to lift a section but it works for me.

Could you please explain how the 5 block rule works?

Is it like this:
|
[][][][][]

[] = platform block
| = anchor.

So 1 anchor can pull 5 blocks in total, or a 5x5 platform?

And yes, I could test this myself. But sadly I am without MC for another few hours, until my lunch starts :P. I have to do with forums to sustain my desires :D

Take a platform, and put an anchor on it. Add 2 platform in every direction. That's a 5x5 platform, and that's the maximum size a signle anchor can lift.
So if you have 4 blocks between each platform, you can lift a longer structure without gap.

Ah cool! :D Thanks. :)

As mentioned before I don't see myself redoing the big bridge I have now, as I kinda got used to it and like it. :) But that defenitally opens up possibilities!!

That also explains why my first attempts at the "underwater bridge" failed so miserably. I was doing it similar to the current bridge, with 4 anchors on the corners so it looked nice. It kept breaking stuff up as the anchors were placed incorrectly + delays from the pulleys :P.

I just had a cool idea for my "Grand hall". It will be fit with pillars on the sides, that will house big platform gates. Those will be down by default, but can be pulled up to open the hall even more! Ballroom parties! \o/

Ill make a new video today :).
My original plans for the "ballroom" with the walls opening through pulleys won't be in though. It doesnt look that great with the platforms as walls, so I will have to think of something else! :)

Also getting stuck with my elevator and 3 stops. I know the process, but need to work out the circuits :D

Working on a 4 stop elevator atm, with constricted space and limited resources -.- but it is seriously frustrating the hell outta me. Hope yours is goin well. How are you triggering what levels you go to? buttons and such? also can it (or will it rather) make its 3 stops on the way back up?

I kinda .. gave up.. for now.. :D

Right now I have a simple flipflip connected to a buttons on the 3 floors to turn the gearbox on/off. so lower/bring up the platform.
In addition I have a detector block when the platform arrives on a level that detects it and powers the pulley to stop it.

This is obviously a bit flawed :P as I have no way to remove the power from the pulley, or have a visible way to see wether its going up or down.

I guess I could have a torch lighting up if it goes up, and not if it goes down, then use a block dispenser to interupt the redstone pattern... hmm

Thats extremely basic, but could technically work!

---------------

For now though, I am working on a bit of fleshing out of the castle :)

Possibly try having a piston extend just under where you want it to stop, this is what I am attempting to use in mine. caution tho, this only works for going down!

Precisely what I was gonna suggest, but with a lightblock instead of a torch.

And to get a pulse signal from your detector, use a stup like that :

Dont pay attention to the part behind the torch on the purple wool. The torch should be on in your design, but I had it turned of in here.
When the signal comes, it gets to the inverter a few ticks after, and have the BD remove redstone. You can choose the duration of the pulse with the delayer.
You can do the same with a piston too now with 1.7.

Hope it's clear ^^

I have to say, looks really nice so far, i do wonder how much better it can get.
For the elevator, trying some stuff myself, I'll maybe post some pics / a video of it when and if i can get it to work as i want.

Brilliant, thanks a million for that! =)
I might ask you some more detailed questions concerning that picture later on if I fail :P - but I THINK I got it :D. Won't have time to test now though :(. Currently uploading my new movie :)
