If I implement one more aesthetic block...

I don't know what exactly, but it will be bad :)

I really have to call it quits on this soon. I'm losing what little is left of my mind.

Annddddd now I'm even more excited for 3.30 (3.21?). I'll admit, I'm a bit of a sucker for aesthetic blocks. ;p

3.21. I refuse to let aesthetic blocks significantly bump the version number ;)

Hehe...yeah, they're nice and all, and I'm certainly enjoying what they're doing to the look of my world right now, I'm just driving myself a bit nuts justifying the block ID usage.

I've set aside two block IDs for aesthetic blocks. One opaque, and one non-opaque. With meta-data, that means I have 32 potential aesthetic blocks that I can put in.

I don't want to blow all 32 right now mind you (I want to save space in there for any future additions I may desire), but I do want to include enough of them right away to justify the 2 block IDs I'm using.

Anyways, this next release is dragging as a result. Doing aesthetic blocks isn't very much fun at all for me, but I'm still taking the time to test each and make sure everything is working just so. I also keep procrastinating about doing them, since they aren't very entertaining to work on, so it's taking way more time than I'd like. I had originally planned on releasing this thing last Sunday, and every day since :)

But yeah, the mod should be getting quite a significant visual upgrade once I salvage enough of my will to live to push out the last couple ;)

Ug...see, I know that soon as I release this thing, I'm going to be flooded with requests for a shit-load of aesthetic blocks too.

It may be time to push the mute button on the suggestion sub-forum again ;)

FC, just add the recipes to change the metadata and let us put our own in textures. The blocks are aesthetic so no functionality is needed and we can make them whatever we imagine. The trick in finding/making the textures and there is no reason to fret over that.

You grossly underestimate what I consider to be an aesthetic block ;)

I guess. My definition of an aesthetic block is pretty to look at or visually enhancing the scene, i.e., marble, granite, hazard strips, arrows, patterns. What is yours?

I won't get into any further details, but it's not just retexturing standard blocks. Textures are taking up maybe 10% of the time I'm investing in these things at most.

Well, 3.21 will certainly be interesting then.

I gotta say I dont really two tugs of a dead dog over merely aesthetic features. I dont play BTW for aesthetics, there are mods and texture packs out there that specialise on aesthetics. Then again, I doubt you mean merely aesthetic, so thats cool.

About block id's, I for one will drop all of the other mods that I have before I drop BTW. I imagine it is the same for alot of the community. BTW is the only mod I use consistently every time I open minecraft.

I'm just going to throw an idea out here.

Bash me if you will... and you will.

Statuettes... there I said it.

I don't know how elaborate FC would be willing to get with the models, but it sounds awesome to me.

Honestly, I considered it, but decided that I'd rather provide more general purpose blocks that people will likely get multiple uses out of.

Ultimately, any statue I'd make would look very specific. I could do angels, or gargoyles, or a BTW logo, or whatever, but they'd all look identical which I feel rather limits people's creativity.

The other thing is that all statues are pretty much directional (with the exception perhaps of pottery, which we already have), which would mean that I'd have to assign a facing to them. This in turn means that they'd each consume 4 of the 32 slots I've reserved for aesthetic blocks for the mod. 32 may sound like a lot, but if I start doing that, they'll get eaten up very quickly indeed.

So, instead I've opted for more general non-directional blocks (I currently have 1 that can face both up and down, but that's it) that will hopefully each serve a variety of purposes.

What the heck, I'm in a good mood, so I'll give you guys an example. One of the things I'm doing is providing a few forms of "masonry" that allows for stuff like this:

I am looking at those columns and drooling. I'm definitely going to find a niche high mesa type formation in a 1.0 world and go Greek construction.

Excellent addition, Flowerchild.
