How to correctly install BTW 3.20/BC 2.2.5/IC2 1.23/RPpre3b

If you're having problems with your installation of Better Than Wolves, or if you've woken up in the future and are beginning to doubt the nature of reality, here's the place to post about it.

With the New Edition to EE making it less OP, should I also add this to the guide?

The . . . folder is really just a go back button, to my knowledge 7zip should work. The easiest way to check if adding the zips was the problem would be to move them to a new folder, and then see what happens. (And if you wouldn't mind letting me know what happens when you do)

Afraid removing them from the mods folder didn't make a difference. I'm not really sure what's wrong then. I followed the directions exactly other than the ... stuff....
And it definitely worked up til the installing the mods into the mod folder...

I suppose it could have had a problem when I inserted the actual BTW mods into the .jar, but that doesn't make much sense. Does it?

Afraid I won't be able to try any more tonight, as I have class in the morning, and I need some sleep. Thanks for the help, and I'll check again tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for clearing up the ... stuff in WinRAR, I'd been curious about it for a while. :D

Just some of the normal questions, not saying that you are dumb, I just have to get a baseline of what options you have:
Are these 4 mods the only ones you are using?
Did you make sure to install the extra vy.class (or whatever the single class was)?
Are you sure you used the forge version of ID resolver?
Did you start with a clean jar?
From the sounds of it, it seems like its just something minor you may have over looked (happens to me all the time, I actually black screened after launching MC to get the mods folder, so I got a new jar only to remember to delete METE-INF).

You caught me just in time, and I did make sure to download the forge version. I looked at your instructions and it didn't say what version, so I made the assumption since everything else was using forge, that I should use the forge version as well. I started with a fresh jar (twice, messed up bad the first time with some outdated stuff, so I re-downloaded practically everything), used the vy.class, have ID resolver. I can't find any step that I missed/messed up. Sorry, but I'm at a loss. XD

I've done the META-Inf thing 3 times on the same mod once. It's ok, I COMPLETELY understand where you're coming from with this.

Can you try once more and do not install ID resolver (or the GuiAPI that it needs) this time, and see if that stops the error. And if you have a modloader text, that might help too.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you on this.

I tried installing it without the Gui API and id resolver. Worked until I put BTW into the .jar... All the other mods seemed to be functioning properly. I did make a backup of the .minecraft folder in progress this time. The only mods in the list NOT installed are the Gui API, ID resolver, and BTW...

I'm going to try adding in the Gui API and id resolver and see if I'm just having a problem with BTW.

Installed everything BUT BTW, and it runs....

Tried installing BTW on the working MC, and it crashes.

I drag and drop the contents of MINECRAFT-JAR into the .jar, run MC, it gets to the mojang logo and crashes. AGAIN! This is getting irksome...

I've been checking through my modloader.txt to see if I could find anything, and at the very bottom it has this:

Exactly, you can use ID resolver, or do it manually with config files and such.

But I have ID resolver/Gui API installed, and it does that. I don't know what to do! I've never had to change block/item id's, so I don't know how to make sure I don't change it to another bad id. Sorry, this is the first time that the mods have been really complicated.

Edit: Tried changing the block id, then realized they are all full from BTW. What should I do now? Because when I start my MC, it doesn't go straight to "resolve item/block ids?"...

I followed the directions to the letter, with an entirely fresh .minecraft folder, and it wont work.

Getting this error:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Slot 154 is already occupied by null when adding buildcraft.builders.BlockMarker@5965e55e

I'm assuming it has to do with an ID, but I have no idea how to fix it. Will attempt to fix it on my lonesome until I get a response.

Change whatever is id 154 in either buildcraft or btw. There are probably a lot more though so preferably just get ID Resolver.
Why do something if you can get someone else to do it for you?

It seems that BTW doesn't handle ID conflicts well sometimes. Try installing BTW first and run it. Then run it with ID resolver. Then put everything else in. That should get ID resolver to settle BTW's ids.

It's Buildcraft.
I tried changing it around, but regardless of what I changed it to, it gave me an error.
The game works if I remove buildcraft from the mod folder, including ID resolver.
I tried running it with buildcraft after IDresolving the BTW stuff, and it still wont launch.

I'm a bit confused. Would installing all of the .jar mods first, then adding into the mods folder Industrial craft and Buildcraft and RedPower work? Because I did a bit of experimenting, and nothing I did seemed to work.

This would work just fine, you just have to be careful about the order, but as long as you follow what I have to the letter, you should be just fine.

I would like to say that this install guide will work for BC 2.2.3 and IC2 1.21, I just have not have time to update the install guide as of yet, but do not worry, as soon as I get enough free time I will update this.
EDIT: And by free time i mean tomorrow the 23rd of October around 4ish EST (I dont know the conversations) sorry for not getting it updated right away guys:-(

triple post, get over it:-). Just letting you know that this has in fact been updated for buildcraft 2.2.4, IC2 1.23, and MCforge 1.1.2. And tomorrow I will need to update for BTW as well. I guess it is true that all things come in threes.

Ok, by installing all the of the .jar mods first, that would include BTW, and therefore be out of your specific order. But since your order wasn't working for me (for no apparent reason, I might add), I thought this would be the next best option.

And I can't understand how we've been working at this SAME problem for about 4 days, and MULTIPLE people have tried to fix my problem and still NOTHING WORKS.

Grrrr....

are you using any other mods?
what type of error are you getting? (black-screen, crash, stuck on mojang logo?)
can you can an error report from you modloader.txt?

Ok. I had followed your directions to the t. You explained the ... thing in WinRar to me, and I was getting a big Java crash at the logo that closed MC, and the modloader txt said this:

See this is your problem (so you can learn how to fix it when when/if you get it again), you should be able to do this by hand by changing the property file in the BTW.zip (try using numbers about 75-100 less for BTW block ID errors), or you could install ID reslover (which you say you installed so im not sure why you are getting an error) and that will give you a menu to fix it.
