Dinnerbone says he's working on some old, popularly suggested feature. He pulled it from a suggestion megathread on /r/minecraft from about 7 months ago, trawling time? Trawling time.

My guess: allowing slabs to be placed in all 6 orientations (like panels).

Huh. Not as pretty as I'd expect given the number of display case mods out there, but the utility with the map seems pretty cool.

so we now have:
hangable maps
a way of displaying items
wall mounted clocks

wow, three constantly suggested things in one feature :P

not too fond of the way items stick out of it though

personally, I'd prefer blocks to either become 2d, or make a pedestal for them instead of a frame

Now that I think of it, it's quite funny how even Jeb and Dinnerbone don't take screenshots using F2.

Yay! Aesthetics... ... ...

Alright, the map and the clock are pretty cool. But I already have much nicer pots to put my plants in ;)

Am I the only one who feels that maps should be I don't know, around 3 times bigger?

I like this, I recently suggested an add-on to BTW that would create a shelf mod that would work with BTW. I suspect that once this frame comes along FC will make BTW work with it cause he's good like that. This is great!

I also like the pot, if only because sometimes I want to display plants without having to have them grow and that would work well.

I am with you there. at the moment they kinda suck. I would think that it would be pretty simple for them to be able to take up at least four blocks total, that would be a useful map.
And HOW!

The thing I was wondering with the wall map, is who is the marker on it? The person who made it, or do you just see yourself?

I'd bet it's the location of the map itself ("you are here"). At least, that's the way I would have implemented it.

While all these new features are nice, I'm much more excited for the API to be released.

At least the potted cactus looks nice, I suppose.

You are correct.
Compasses and maps depend on the block they are placed on, and not the player looking at them.

The flowerpot's been a long time coming imo, and now we get to hear the "FC! wut your opinion on vMC flowerpots? will u remove the planterz!" on the forums <3

A less bulky alternative for aesthetics is nice.

An interesting thing about the new 'purifying zombie' mechanics in the new snapshot that I found on reddit.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comme ... sults_o_o/

I'm not sure how this could change gameplay, as villagers in the Nether doesn't seem THAT big of a deal, but still could have some interesting implications.

I wonder how you control item rotation in the frames? In Jeb's latest screenshot, you can see that the gold sword is rotated to point all 4 ways. Maybe a right click after the item is in the frame. Also, the cobble fences are AWESOME! So many building possibilities... Although I wonder if it auto-creates those posts based on length of the fence or if there's a fence block and a post block.

from the look of the textures, I'm guessing there could be either two blocks, one for the wall, one for the post. (you can see that the texture on the right wall repeats twice, but the left wall only does once, implying that the walls are different lengths)

alternatively, since the posts only seem to appear on corners, gates/breaks in the wall, and under torches, it's possible that the posts will appear automatically on corners, ends, or when you place a torch on top. (although, that could be annoying if you wanted a post without a torch, break, or corner)

I'm personally hoping it will be the first option, much like FC's decision to keep pedestals and columns seperate, it allows more flexibility

I use it for a few weeks now, and it is really nice.

1.3.2 is out

Changes

> Large Oak Trees now generate with sideways logs.
> You can now toggle showing server addresses in the server list using the F1 key

Bug Fixes:
> Fixed players sometimes falling out of the world when entering the Nether after having been there before in the same session
> Fixed players taking damage when water pushes them into corners
> Fixed various uncommon crash bugs

Not sure whether to update to it or not as i dont know which version BTW will be released to initially.
