The issue is, pot and cauldron with nethery stuff becomes a perpetuum mobile, which I find boring.
What if make then require water to cook?
So, you have to fill the thing with a bucket of water, and when pot is heated water slowly starts boiling away. When it riches zero all food inside will burn and become somehow useless, maybe just deleted, idk.
So player will have to be ready to add water when needed.
However, it shouldn't be required for a stoked fire process, becouse you don't need water to, for example, smelt iron chestplates.
This little addition would make mod a bit more realistic and even more fun!
Water for cooking in pots and cauldrons maybe?

If a player didn't want to watch the cauldron, he could add a timer to shut off the fire after a certain amount of time. It's an interesting and realistic suggestion.medvedthe1st wrote:The issue is, pot and cauldron with nethery stuff becomes a perpetuum mobile, which I find boring.

That will make player:
A) Put only as much food as 1 bucket can deal with at once.
or B) Watch water level and be ready to put water in.

Sadly it fails one of FC's tests: Will this break exisiting builds?
Re: Water for cooking in pots and cauldrons maybe?
Also it's not automation friendly which was the whole point of introducing the stewing pot...
Re: Water for cooking in pots and cauldrons maybe?
It would definitely break exisiting builds. Maybe the damage could be minimized by letting the pot get filled by a waterstream on top, but this would contradict your goal to add a manual challenge.
And at least all stewing pots in the nether would then become useless, because imo it's much too tedious to manually bring buckets of water through to portal just to cook or render something.
And regarding the more realistic part, all the vanilla cooking recipes were done in the furnace before without any water, needing water makes only sense for stuff like colouring wool or tanning leather.

Well, that's not quite like that. I always thought that in a furnace you bake food, and in cauldron you boil it. So you don't need water for furnace, obviously. Actually, FC represents this idea with baking flour in furnace for bread, and boiling in pots for donuts.Whisp wrote:And regarding the more realistic part, all the vanilla cooking recipes were done in the furnace before without any water, needing water makes only sense for stuff like colouring wool or tanning leather.

Your idea about water streams can be compilated with manual challenge if cauldron will be filled like this only if mechanically powered.Whisp wrote:It would definitely break exisiting builds. This makes me think you should play a bit more with the mod. Stewing pots get tipped when mechanical power is applied.medvedthe1st wrote:Your idea about water streams can be compilated with manual challenge if cauldron will be filled like this only if mechanically powered.Whisp wrote:It would definitely break exisiting builds.
