You can't filter out salt from water though. You have to evaporate off the water.

It doesn't (IRL) generate that kind of steam, think more water evaporating due to the sun and shallow pools.

Actually, there's reverse osmosis.

Soul reversal?

the water could also be boiled off. but not used for steam- IRL, boiling saltwater for steam would cause the salt to crystallize on everything and gum up works.

on to uses for salt.
-on the use for ceramics: i see this being used with the exp collection, but also with the netherfluids. since the netherfluids 'may' be acidic or otherwise detrimental, i could see having to package everything in a vase and float it down stream like a letter in a bottle... an interesting building challenge, but also a programming one. :s it would be fun to have a packaging center but i don't know what it would add to the game. idk, speculation and ranting.

-but i also saw soap on that list, i wonder how that would work out...

-salt can also be used to lower the freezing point of water.

the uses for salt will most likely lead into ceramic, rubbers and plastics though. at the moment there isn't a ton of uses for bricks, besides clogging filters and a fairly expensive and ugly building material (IMO, at least in the default texture pack).

last note: salt water causes rust faster than normal water, something about ions and all that. so it should (IMO) deteriorate your steel and iron tools and mechanical bits.

i don't know if any of this post is... realistic, but maybe it'll give others ideas and lead them in good directions.

FlowerChild has never confirmed the addition of a Nether fluid. In fact, he likes how the Nether has a restriction in that aspect, so he may keep it this way.

He's also recently said he's changed his mind about that.

Don't worry Stormy, we're on the same wavelength... I think. I can't wait to see what ends up happening with good old nether sludge either.

FlowerChild wrote:I began to change my mind on this when I started seeing people building waterless Nether designs. I wanted to see how that would play out with time.

I think my end analysis on it is that it's a good thing to have an area that provides this kind of added design challenge. The mod has gotten to the point where the Nether offers several advantages to building certain kinds of contraptions, and I think having that added challenge in there while doing so is interesting for players.

So yeah, I don't think I'll be including a Nether fluid any time soon.

That is one of the naturally occurring libraries that occur in Strongholds. I'm guessing we might be needing a lot of books? No idea why though... this is new.

Flower has said in the past that he liked the idea of an alternate enchantment table that required massive libraries to max out enchantments... Maybe that idea came to fruition? :)
