another problem with archimedes screw

Post by myrrdan »

Ok, so i have it built in my testing world and it works awesome.
I'm trying to build it in a new world and the turntable turns, turns the first torch off, turns the 2nd off, but when the turn tables torch moves on & the torches on the bottom two levels of the archimedes do not turn back on...
It worked fine when i built it, then i paused the gear box coming from the water wheel, built the water feeders on the top & bottom. unpaused the gearbox and now it doesn't work.
i've replaced all the torches starting from the bottom and i also replaced them again starting at the top..
i don't understand why it would stop & not turn back on..
is it a weird side effect of the torches or something i'm missing??
i've compared it to my working one & there is no difference, same materials, same # of blocks, same width etc...

Can you provide us with some pictures? They'd probably help us with helping you.

unfortunately i have no place to upload images to.
battosay has a video showing an archimedes screw.
basically, the bottom two torches never turn back on after the redstone signal is removed.
I have no idea why it would do that and can see no problem with how its built...

yeah, sometimes the RS torches fuck up like that. It happened to me a lot in my test world, where I use MCedit to copy/paste/remove some parts. Try to build your column of torches somewhere else, and it should work

Not being able to see your setup, I can only assume you mean your turntable is getting stuck? If so, this is likely because there is redstone below one of the torches attached to it that leads to the turntable. This will reverse the direction of the turntable until the redstone is unpowered again, so it will just flip back and forth instead of rotating?

The other option is that you have something else powering the bottom two torches.

You can get a free dropbox or imgur account to upload photos to.

the turn table continues to turn with no problems, the only issue is that the bottom torch on each side will no turn back on, and its a new area, so no power sources or anything that may affect it.
i'll see if moving it someplace else will do anything like battosay suggested.

if it breaks again, it could be that your redstone torches end up below each other, and invert the current at the wrong time

in the archimedes screw idea, the torches need to be above each other, as high as you want it to go. the bottom one turns, which should turn each of the ones above it, then it changes again, reversing it. cept sometimes it works, sometimes it turns off & never turns back on.
I've noticed the same problem with turning a torch off by a redstone current & it not turning itself back on again..
I really have no idea why its doing it.
as simple as 1 block, red stone line running to top, another running from the torch that is on the side.
flip a toggle connected to the first redstone line, the torch turns off. flip it again and it turns on.
Then all of a sudden, it will stop turning it back on.
Its weird and I can't see any rhyme or reason for it.

Simple :
Creative mod is a big piece of shit.
Redstone doesn't work properly.
Just make yourself a creative world, place some chests with what you need, and use something like NBCEdit to make the world survival. Works much better.

So wait... Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how does creative mode, in any way, touch the redstone code? O_o

Never realized creative mode was the problem, but now that i think about it,
it is the way I made the archimedes screw. .
thanks Battosay, i'll keep that in mind. :)
