also (since this was mentioned earlier): in order to make an XOR gate a system must be setup whereby when input A OR input B is activated the output is ON, however when neither A NOR B are activated the output is set to OFF and when BOTH A AND B are activated the signals cancel and produce an OFF signal.

The standard way to build one in minecraft is to build a NAND gate then attach a torch opposite of each input. Then lift the standard NAND output up one block so that the new torches do not interfere with that signal and attach a torch to the end of that block. The Circuit is almost complete, however it needs a system whereby the outputs don't cause odd interference with each other. Place redstone dust on either side of the center torch and attach a NOT Gate to each of them facing the same direction as the center torch. place redstone between the outputs of the NOT gate and that is the output for your new XOR gate.
