This is from a few updates back, but can someone explain to me how weeds work? My plants keep dying, and I'm not really sure why. I've been killing tall grass as it comes up, but how can i prevent tall grass from happening to begin with?
Thanks.
Weeding? [spoilers, possibly]
Re: Weeding? [spoilers, possibly]
This may sound like a silly question but is your farmland sufficiently hydrated?
If the minecraft world is infinite, why does the sun still rotate around it?

Yeah, this is very early game, right next to water.

i would suggest only tilling what you can plant. Also put up fencing to protect your plants, I believe animals and mobs can crush them.

oh weeds can only grow on tilled soil -- derp..

I've never had a crop die to weeds yet and I have one field completely open. I actually like weeds because they give a tiny source of hemp seeds, so if you needed a small boost for hemp seed production, you can make a weed farm.

I don't know if that was intentional or not, but I laughed.Gunnerman21 wrote:so if you needed a small boost for hemp seed production, you can make a weed farm.

From what I can tell, this change is simply that tilled soil without anything planted on it has a chance to spawn tallgrass on it. If your crops are getting destroyed, it is likely from mobs jumping on them. Is the area fully lit up, and is it walled off and protected from spiders getting over the walls?

Yeah I found out the hard way that mobs were getting into my fenced off area (and presumably trampling my crops) when two zombies busted down my front door and killed me :(
