Re: Castle Build - progress display [PAUSED]

Post by FaceFoiled »

Alrighty, the pause won't be as I initially would have thought.

I already rebuilt the majority of the manor house, which also allowed me to add some cool changes to it. It will look even better then before.
The elevator shouldnt take too long in the towers either, but the treasury will be a pain in the buttocks to excavate again. :P

Might do a new tomorrow though. :)

Hey Face, I really dont like to chase links, so in the i made this up (all the vids are imbedded) If you want you can post it in the op...
How To Use YouTube Imbedder
Show
As An Example you can have the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvjkADfmSxc
and of that link you want the red part:CvjkADfmSxc
then you add the tags {youtube} CvjkADfmSxc {/youtube} (cept you replace the {} brackets with [] brackets)

And that is how you imbed a video into these forums!!

Final Product

Code: Select all

is the same as:

That is actually how I had it initially, but I felt it was too cluttered with all the spoilers and embed's in it. :)
The other options was to have 1 spoiler with all the embeds in it, but that could potentially cause latency troubles for those with a dodgy connection. Hence I went with links, can click if you want to watch - or not. :P

Thanks for the feedback though. :)

Shameless self bump... but with a reason! :)
I am now keeping my map uploaded as up to date as my videos, so almost on a daily basis. Whenever I make changes, I will upload it as well. The link will be found with details on my youtube channel as mentioned in the Original post (which is also kept up to date with new video links and details, embeds in the 2nd post). =)

I just had a quick question about your elevator.
I have a working 3 stop elevator, but the delay's made it so i couldn't go further.

Your elevator looks like it is much simpler than my design.
It looks like you're running the gear boxes from the bottom up, with a gear box at the floor of each level, and a detector block on each level.
with 2 buttons on each level.
1 button to continue, 1 button to reverse direction.
...
...
i can't wrap my head around how you're getting it to stop, as opposed to just reversing direction with the detector block..
or do you have your switches hidden elsewhere?

Let's see if I can try and explain this. :)

Up and down movement:
At the top of my elevator is the "main gearbox". That gearbox is connected to a T-flipflop to turn off/on. Every level has a button connected to the T-flipflop so I can push it at ever level (if I want to) to change the output of the t-flipflop, which then either changes the gearbox that it is connected to at the top.

Break:
At the top of the pulley(s) connected to the platform is a redstone current connected the Detector Blocks at each level. So when the platform moves next to a Detector Block, the pulleys receive power from the redstone circuit and stop. I then use the "break button", to interrupt the signal with a inverted Block Dispenser facing part of the circuit at the pulleys. (Inverted: The Block Dispenser is always powered, so it always places a redstone dust thingy and complets the circuit between the Detector Blocks, and pulleys. When it receives the signal from the "break button", it is turned off for a second, (think 1.5 second from the button), which removes the redstone dust and breaks the circuit, removing the power to the pulleys and allows movement of the platform again in the direction established by the up/down button).

I hope that makes sense. :)

makes some sense yes, i was using different logic gates for mine.
Will definitely have to try out the flipflop gates :)
thanks
<EDIT>
ok, so it works great, got the flipflop gate & everything connected & working.
my only other question, how did you get around the delay caused by the detector blocks &
having to use repeaters to get the redstone signal all the way up to the pulley..
thats what i found limited my other elevator

For that I cheat... I use the Wireless Redstone to send signals between things. For example from my detector blocks to the pulley circuit, and the buttons to the flipflop, and the output from that to the main gearbox. I wont have this in my future multiplayer server with BTW, so from that point on everything will be done manually. :)

I did not know that redstone repeaters would delay as well when on the "default" setting. Are you using redstone + repeaters to signal your way up, or using the redstone candle system?

lol
i'm using redstone dust & repeaters to extend the signal..
not sure what you mean by redstone candle.

regardless of the setting on the repeaters they give a delay, its one of the reasons its difficult to get past 3 levels, by the time the signal from the lower levels hit the top, its already past the floor..

whats this wireless redstone thing?

It is a block that takes redstone current (transmitter), and sends it to another block to receive it. (receiver). You can set those up with a number as well, up to 1000. So you can have 1000 different receivers/transmitters communicating with each other without interference from other setups. If you are playing without it so far though, I do suggest that you try and find a way around it. As it is more fun to do it the real way without such shortcuts. :P (at least, I find it that way).

This is my free build save, so I have infinite supplies to build away and have fun at it. :)

Lots of new videos uploaded, as I added a new mod to my world, the Zeppelin mod!

This mod will be used at a later stage, when I start my 2nd construction area in a newly generated world chunk with the 1.8 additions to the game. =)
I also changed the glass texture slightly, by simply removing the inside metal-beams of the JohnSmith pack.
