Just as an update for others, I updated to the new NVIDIA driver today (378.66) and can finally run Minecraft 1.5.2 again.

I just start minecraft and he automatically update my launcher 1.6.70 to 1.6.73 ...

This break my profil with btw i'm unable to play ... I try a new instal but look impossible !
Its impossible to instal official minecraft 1.5.2 all bug !

If i push play always back this screen :

I've also not had any trouble with my install. I haven't tried a free install yet, will do that shortly and see if I get any issues. I'll update my guide if I find anything.

Nope. I did a fresh install using my tutorial with the new patcher upgrade and had no issues.

I don't know ! Maybe its the last version of NVIDIA DRIVER make a crash .... For me only for MC version 1.5.2 and all other down version to !

I have restored a previous versions of windows with the restored save tool from windows ... now i can play all are OK !

So I googled, the error code from your last screenshot, and I found this:

I don't think Nvidia is your problem. I think you need to update Java, or actually, reinstall an older Java.

I remember having this same issue, Java8 does not play well with older versions of Minecraft. You might need to get Java7 on your machine, and have the profile point to it in the 'Executable:' field.

It's actually a new issue, and has to do with the way the new Nvidia drivers interact with a particular version of Java requested by the official launcher. Both Mojang and Nvidia seem to be aware of the problem: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-112780 It also seems to be affecting newer versions.

I installed the new drivers and it gave me the same error, rolled them back and it was working fine again.

There seems to be a way around it by using a particular Java version but it's best to either not update your drivers, or if you have, go into Device Manager and rollback your display driver. yes it's nvidia ... I have try update java or use other version but same error !

I make a systeme restore to be sure but of course you just need to instal a previous version of nvidia !

After reading this post, I went to check my driver version and discovered that I neglected to install the proprietary driver management suite for my video card with my Win7 reinstall a few weeks ago as I normally would have. As a result, my rig is currently running with whatever latest driver is provided directly through Microsoft Update. In my update history, I see several identically labeled entries with date stamps spanning the last few weeks all generically referencing a video driver update (with the same KB number, even). All but one of them are listed as "successful" installs, and the odd-man-out failure is something that I already knew about and resolved in the first days following my install of Win7 to accommodate my reshuffling of which hard drives were used where.

Against that, I can now report some odd message describing that a new launcher is downloading, and I've seen this re-download prior to my last handful of BTW sessions. I can still verify however that my vMC is v1.5.2 and I'm running [Timing Rodent b] of the mod as normal with no other changes or errors visible to me.

Is this related to what you folks are discussing here? Should I look into mucking with my nVidia drivers or installing the proprietary software for them? As a precaution, I've backed up my world save just in case.

The probleme we talk here are only for nvidia driver ^^

If your MC is working fine as is then I wouldn't touch anything. Even if the issue does arise it's not going to affect your worlds, this is just a startup issue caused by the latest Nvidia drivers (I think it's the 3d vision drivers specifically).

Also using Windows Update is probably the best way to go about keeping your drivers up to date so you don't get all the useless Nvidia bloatware.

I recognize that using the updated launcher is not known to be a problem. I was unclear when I attempted to describe that my launcher re-downloads and re-updates-from-download every first-instance attempt to run it per computer boot cycle. (Subsequent entries into the game client without rebooting do not trigger re-update.)

Alongside this, I have not been able to establish what driver version or version-equivalent I'm running at all. All I have from MSU history is a suggested-but-not-categorically-reliable-to-be-thorough datestamp timeline of driver updates with no notations as to driver version evolution through said updates. In other words, I have not been able to ascertain what driver I'm running, or even the driver manufacturer.

That seems to be a different issue altogether.

If you want to check your driver details, just follow the video ko posted. The version number is the last 5 numbers under Driver Version. I.e, in that video the number is 21.21.13.7633 which corresponds to Nvidia version 376.33.

Just as an update for others, I updated to the new NVIDIA driver today (378.66) and can finally run Minecraft 1.5.2 again.
