[please verify] Compass points to nearest non-iron beacon

Post by mc_dunedin »

On the server i play on, compasses point to my lapis beacon.
I reproduced this in a local survival world using the following steps:

  • Create new survival world, cheats enabled, otherwhise default
  • Walk some 50ish blocks away from spawn
  • Give yourself 9 Lapis blocks, 1 beacon, 1 compass

    Code: Select all

    /give <name> 22 9
    /give <name> 138 1
    /give <name> 345 1

  • Build a beacon. After a few moments the compass will point toward it
The effect has a higher range on larger beacons.

Other people on the server i play on have reported the same effect, so i don't think it has to do with my install. I would like other players however to verify this problem using the steps above.

That's not a problem man, it's by design :)

Iron beacons have a stronger effect than others (as do soulforged beacons), but all beacons generate a field which the compass will point towards. The only exception is the glass beacon, since it is intended as a strictly decorative option.
