How come you started using Jzip? Is there a reason for it? I wonder who keeps advertising this abysmal program. Seems a bit odd that so many people use a crappy archiving tool in the Minecraft community

I've had it for a long time, I only needed something free that could unzip files and it met that requirement.
I've uninstalled it and moved to 7Zip now though.

Pity, I was hoping you stumbled upon it through a Minecraft thread.

In any case, it seems that Jzip has a problem with corrupting JAR files, so it'd be best for people to stay clear of it when doing Minecraft stuff.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here (only running BTW v3.491 and the most recent version of modloader), but whatever, here is my modloader.txt:

I have a hunch here...just a small one...

Perhaps check which version of MC you're running? Maybe? Hmmmm?

I have the same black screen problem. I installed in a clean, updated version, following the order 1st modloader then btw, deleted metainf. Black screen. Tried a lot of variants and none worked.

A clean, updated version? Since you're posting today, I'm assuming that means you updated minecraft to 1.3.1. So basically you're trying to install a mod for minecraft 1.2.5 into a 1.3.1 minecraft client? Mods that you add to the minecraft jar file should always be installed on the version of minecraft listed with the mod or it will fail. So either you'll need to downgrade to 1.2.5 or wait for a 1.3.1 version of BtW to come out (and in case you feel tempted to ask when that is: don't).

Well, I think that was a problem. Thank you!
Just one more question. Is it possible to overwrite a previous 1.2.5 MC - BTW installation with the new BTW 3.91? Would it have all the new things?
(I ask this 'cause now I can't find a 1.2.5 modloader..., only the 1.3.1)

Better than wolves is not for 1.3.1 yet!

You can just copy the contents of 3.91 into the old BtW jar and it should work just fine. Just remember to make a backup of your working copy first in case something does go wrong.

So, with some quick testing I found that this works fine using MultiMC for installation. You just need to archive the contents of the MINECRAFT-JAR folder into a .zip, take modloader, open MultiMC, create a new instance, right click it, "edit mods", then drag modloader's .zip (it should have been downloaded as this) into the space, then drag the BTW .zip (that you made by archiving MINECRAFT-JAR's contents) in below it. X out of the "edit mods" section and play. It will delete META INF For you.

Swapping out new versions is as easy as replacing your BTW archive with one you made using the latest version.

I use MultiMMC as well, and I was thinking along the same lines. Thanks for testing this! I'm going to try upgrading to 4.0 using it.

I still can't get it to work. I deleted my .minecraft folder and reinstalled it from scratch. I added ModLoader to the .jar, then I added BTW to the jar, then I deleted META-INF. I get the following error when trying to create a world:

You got that order all jacked up man... Delete META-INF, drag Modloader files in, Drag MINECRAFT-JAR files from the BTW in (JUST the contents of that folder).
The spice must flow...

Deleting meta-inf first or last does NOT matter. The order he did things is just fine.

Since a few versions ago, Mojang keeps old versions around.
