Legacy Skin Support mod (outdated, included in CE)

Post by Gilberreke »

Here's probably what you've been waiting for :)

Simple jar mod that will make skins work. If you have any issues, let me know. It redirects any calls to skins.minecraft.net to crafatar.com. This is a very trusted source for skins that many applications use and I provided the source of my addon for security reasons.

NOTE: read the readme to follow instructions and make sure the skin/cape values in BTWConfig.txt are set to default values!

Thank you so much for working on this! It works beautifully in singleplayer and was easy to use. (It took a while to show up in multiplayer, but now all is well.)

Yeah, this is an unfortunate side effect with how naive 1.5.2 handles downloading skins. Newer versions of Minecraft fix this by keeping a skin cache and a few other tricks. I think I might be able to do the same, I'll have a look at it tonight after work. Worst case right now, it'll take a while for skins to show up.

I added an issue to the github, but it relies on two new features being present: https://github.com/SimonMeskens/Minecra ... r/issues/3

It doesn't seem worth putting a lot of work into- up to you of course! - but it's nice to just know that it might take a few minutes and that I didn't do anything "wrong." Thanks for that confirmation.

A few minutes is weirdly long, I'll do some server testing myself

Brilliant man!
Worked like a charm, and had no delay on the server.

Great to see this, I'll definitely be adding this, especially given that I couldn't use the AWS server.

Thanks guys! Glad to see it's working.

The only things I can add to make it even smoother are a bit involved, so I'm going to hold off on any updates until this version has been thoroughly used.

Do tell me any small or large hickups, so I'm aware of potential things to fix.

I switched to adding this. No delay that I noticed (although I'm playing solo again since the server shut down) and seems to work fine ^^

I just installed this and it does not seem to be working for me. I installed it with mcpatcher 5.0.3 and removed the readme file. Am I missing something?

No, should be working with MCPatcher install, order doesn't even matter. Can you try manually putting it in the jar?

Can you make sure this website shows the correct skin?
https://mcuuid.net/

Then also check, using that uuid, if this website shows the correct skin:
https://crafatar.com/

If either of those fail, let me know.

Just wanted to chime in and say it's not working for me either. I checked both the sites you linked and they both show the correct skin. Both with all my addons and MCPatcher 5.0.3, and with only BTW 4.A9b.

Did you install it with MCPatcher or manually? I can't see how there would be an issue with MCPatcher install, but maybe there is?

It's working perfectly for me and the code it uses is quite trivial. I might have to release a version that logs anything that's wrong to the MC log.

Tried it with both and neither work for me. Not sure why it wouldn't be working since like I said the skin servers gave the right skin.

I'll release a version with proper logging, give me a few days to schedule it in. Hopefully that will tell us the problem, as I can't really test more on my end, it just works for me.

So just an update on the troubles I was having with this: I just booted up MC on my laptop for the first time in a while, since I'm out of my house for a few days, and noticed my skin working with this mod. I'll have to do a bit more testing when I get home to see if it's my desktop or my home internet that's not working, but I figured I'd drop this info here.

Maybe you changed the BTWConfig? It does expect you not to change the default values for the skin stuff.

That's probably it then. Now that you say something I remember changing the config when FC added that so I'll revert that when I get the chance.

Just as friendly advice, I'd really recommend mentioning that explicitly in the OP to cut down on your tech support. I suspect the majority of issues reported by people will boil down to this.

Yup, I didn't realize this could be an issue until someone mentioned it on Discord, I'm already repacking the release with a new readme, I might look at throwing in some error logging too.

Edit: it already has all the error logging I could add

while I wanted to thank you for making this, I did find an interesting bug/glitch. If I die with the inventory menu up after Steve revert to the texture pack skin after he falls over.
It's FC mod, he just lets us play it.

I'm not touching any code that could cause that, so that's very odd. I'll look into it and I'd appreciate it a lot if others could try to reproduce this too.
