Laptop is dying, any help appreciated!

Hey guys, I'm having a big problem at the moment with my laptop, at least one graphics card had fried it's memory! Does anyone know anything about fixing this - I've had it opened up and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be possible to remove one and leave the other, so I'm either after someone who c...

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.89)

I think many are still misinterpreting or misrepresenting a nomadic lifestyle as *the* way to play the early game, and frankly, that's just setting new players up for pain and wandering aimlessly to find villages before you need them. I feel I should apologise for that - I enjoyed the new challenge...

It's sad to see all of you trash Sarudak... To be fair, only one person actively trashed him - and I was twitching to PM them and ask them to reign it in a bit, but the conversation had moved on and no-one had piled on so I didn't. Everyone else just tried in their own ways to counteract the wall o...

Re: Hardcore Spawn is finished

Urgh, just went to post my gratitude to FC for the new release and I notice it's locked. Now here's the thing - I downloaded the release last night (French time), when there were no comments and have been playing it pretty solidly until now. Why didn't I post my thanks straight away? Simply because ...

Re: Have single-player FPS gone backwards?

I wholeheartedly agree, regenerating health is probably the worst feature of modern fps games in general. I think it's just misused - Halo (1) was one of the best FPS games I have ever played and one reason for that was the idea that you had a health bar and a regenerating shield - and your enemies...

Re: Getting REALLY Frustrated

Think of Better Than Wolves like you would think of the thief games. To begin with, you will die, mostly because you are not utilising all the tools you have available. You mentioned that you die a lot to creepers at your front door. Because creepers are silent, you have to spot them, which means a ...

Re: Have single-player FPS gone backwards?

Anyways, like I said, I do agree with his general statements that SP gameplay is actually getting worse with time in this genre, just disagree on some of the particulars about how and why that came about. One thing that struck me was his view that "maze" level design was somehow superior ...

Re: Arg, fuck, kill (ranting at cpw)

You'll notice that my personal definition of what constitutes a "good" idea includes the ability and cost to implement. THAT is a crucial aspect of ideas that many people neglect, and being able to produce something good starts at the idea stage in terms of thinking in terms of cost/benef...

Just a quick warning guys, if someone contacts you through the steam BTW group telling you about a free game, the site they will direct you too is a well known phishing site and needless to say, you won't get a free game and your details will get sold to every scumbag in the world.

Re: RTS Game Design Question: Upkeep to complex?

Do check out the Anno games for a great implementation of many simple systems working together to create a complicated ecosystem - which is fundamentally what I believe you are trying to achieve! Also of great interest to you may be the bombing run Britain performed against Argentina - not getting p...

Re: Scrolls...ok, wtf is going on?

This game is currently going the same way as every other trading card game I have ever seen in that there is two or three valid builds for each sphere, no sphere has a build which is unbeatable by any other deck. Because of the free-to-play-like trickling of the cards to players it can be weeks befo...

Re: Scrolls...ok, wtf is going on?

I go through all 50 cards all the time and while I'm not a good card counter I can say for sure that once your last card is drawn, your discard pile is shuffled and a new random draw pile is made - cards do not appear in the same order in which they were discarded and you will only see 3 of any card...

Re: Scrolls...ok, wtf is going on?

"Ante" was a brilliant design decision IMO, and I think it was what primarily attracted me to the game to begin with. I've always wondered if they had to remove it due to legal reasons (after all, as the cards developed real-money value, I could see that rule falling afoul of gambling law...

Re: Scrolls...ok, wtf is going on?

What I really liked about ante was how it acted as somewhat of a self-balancing mechanism. Yes, you could build your deck out of a ton of high-value cards, but that also meant you were risking way more in playing against some poor bastard with just a starter deck. So, people with stronger decks wer...

Re: Old terrain generation nostalgia

This is exactly why I play large biomes (well, one of two reasons anyway) - while yes, the bland uniform expanse of whichever biome you are in is far larger, there is enough space within each biome to find those little gems of variation - a mountain covered in trees in a forest biome or a series of ...
