Re: Anyone interested in starting a new BTW DF game?

I'm in depending on how much time you're given to complete your year. I have never really succeeded in writing down interesting occurances so I'm curious how this will work out.

Re: 4.62 Balance Observations & Discussion

You can cook stuff by lighting the block below your cauldron on fire. It burns for long enough to cook a single item at a time. You shouldn't use wood though, it burns up and extinguishes the flame. I doubt it's intended behaviour but the process is bothersome enough that I personally can't consider...

That's great man, real useful. Where can you find that time stamp without updating though?

Re: HC Hunger findings and balance observations

I'm pretty much with dawnraider. I love the added challenge but find food to drain so quickly that I barely have time to do anything besides scavenging. It makes reaching the next tier very tedious, especially when spawning on a poor location (ie. no chickens). I've been playing several ingame weeks...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

From what I've seen on other forums a lot of people are getting lag even though the fps is high. This could be due to the broken wip lighting engine in 1.5. Try turning off smooth lighting all together and see if that helps. Fuck those guys. It pisses me off to no end that they are succeeding in br...

The most recent non-aesthetic feature I used was the tripwire hook for detecting falling items. They were added in august 2012 and I've only gotten around to using them yesterday.

Re: Predictable respawns with HC Spawn (possible spoilers)

First off, thank you guys for your swift and helpful replies. I'm still in 4.58, which after reading the .59 changelog explains everything. I'll probably gen a new world as well, having only three biomes to spawn in (possibly four, but it changes little) does make getting back to spawn far too easy.

Predictable respawns with HC Spawn (possible spoilers)

I am not sure wether to post this in BTW Discussion or Tech Support, but upon dying I am consistently respawned anywhere between 1000 - 1500 blocks south and 50 - 200 blocks west of my original spawn. I haven't ever been spawned in any other direction, despite the area around my spawnpoint being oth...

Re: Show us your builds!

So I just finished building this as I got bored with my usual urn makers (single turntable next to a kiln). Took me a good few weeks due to procrastination and what not but I'm particularly proud of it as this is the first time I ever used redstone and repeaters in my BDs in order to have multiple o...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of Feb 11th)

Ok, all this talk about story in game has me wondering for the past few days how you feel about RPGs as story is generally central in that genre. I must admit that the only RPG I ever enjoyed was Morrowind (and FO3 for a bit, with the right mods installed) and I suppose a large part of that was the ...

Re: Item loss when burning to death

That actually sounds like a lag artifact effect. Since the SMP merge, sometimes the 'server' disagrees with you on where it thinks you are and may have dumped all your items back in the lava. Not a BTW effect at all unless it's a beacon side effect we've not yet noticed. Goddamnit. I don't mind dyi...

Item loss when burning to death

Just right now I fell in a puddle of lava and caught fire. I managed to climb out, stumble away from the lava source and succumbed to burning damage. HC Spawn respawned me in the middle of a wood as it usually does but as soon as I got my bearings (sunrise was only a minute away) I headed east, foun...

Minecraft Classic. It was pretty crazy, nothing like Minecraft today. It branched at some point when Notch started developing indev or infdev and remained as a free demo of sorts. You should try it if you haven't played it, it's pretty fun seeing where Minecraft has come from.

Re: Hardcore Beacons *SPOILERS, CHEAT FREE*

The one and only criticism of beacons I have is that they encourage old-style xp grinders, where the player punches glitching masses of mobs. Why auto kill mobs when you can kill them yourself and get double the loot? Other than that, I love the beacons :) As a counter-argument, don't most mob trap...

Re: MC in game journal (book and quill)

I try to trace history by posting notes on big achievements with a date on them (for example, first dung, hibachi, anvil, things like that). Eventually these achievements will be housed in a museum of sorts. I did try keeping a journal once but I can never find it in me to keep it properly updated. ...

Re: "The Sniper Problem" (Game Design Discussion)

This thread was started in 2011. Like, woah, man. I still like this discussion, as the role of 'sniper' (more like camper usually) is almost indefinitely filled by people who suck at actually playing the game. I haven't played a shooter in years, but the last time I did I made it a sport to kill sni...

To be quite fair, I don't like the looks of it. Particularly the way the items 'stack' on the ground bothers me. I hope this is a feature that can be turned off without having to switch off 'fancy graphics'.

The first few diamonds I find usually go into a diamond hoe to kick-start my hemp production. Before BTW it always was a sword first followed by a diamond pick. When playing vMC I wouldn't even consider wasting diamonds on anything else.
