Re: Redstone lessons for someone else.

Teach them the basics atleast: Redstone powers blocks; redstone touching powered blocks powers; torches attached to powered blocks go unpowered. That kind of stuff. After that I'd suggest teaching them a few circuits you expect them to need in BtW. If they're interested they can then try to figure o...

Re: Direwolf's AMA

Only seen a few mod spotlights of his and I wouldn't be surprised if someone somewhere made a drinking out of his videos. Take a drink any time he says "awesome" or "cool" and you'll be sloshed after the first two minutes :P

Re: Fight the good fight banners

Probably just keeping order in the forums. It's pretty clear that any thread about this subject will descend into chaos regardless of the intentions of the original poster. Can't blame them for not wanting to provide the battleground for this.

Re: What is BWF?

Oh, I'm quite certain it'd be a no, but if slowpoke wants a concrete yes/no answer, then why not? I certainly don't see the harm in making it absolutely, unrefutably clear what FC's stance on that particular point is. Guesswork by various people and misinformation has been plagueing this discussion ...

Re: What is BWF?

After some discussion with Slowpoke, I'll just leave this question here. Any chance you could see yourself giving a straight out "yes" or "no" answer? It doesn't have to be based in legality or morality. Personal opinion is just fine. It might seem obvious after the past few days...

Aaaand since I didn't bother reading your post entirely where you requested for a dead tree, I made myself give it a try on creative. This is about the best I could come up with: http://www.bottledindigo.com/btw/deadtree.jpg You definitely want to make the trunk less "straight up into the air&q...

The only thing that came to mind was the below video. It's about larger trees, mind you, but maybe the techniques can be scaled down a bit as well?

Re: What is BWF?

From what I've gathered, BwF is a remake of BtW with a completely new codebase. The only reason that BtW is even needed is because they'd be violating copyright if they distributed FC's textures with their mod. Therefore they require you to toss BtW in the config folder, so they can read the texture...

Re: What is BWF?

I'm sorry to say that not even this can motivate me to create an account on the minecraft forums, but I have posted about this in another place I do have an account and hopefully a suitable audience. I'm not going to provide a link as I'd rather keep a bit of distance between there and here, but her...

Re: What is BWF?

I honestly have no idea how MCF works now. Isn't the idea of moderators that they don't get involved and that they are impartial judges of who goes too far and who does not? Why the heck are they even allowing moderators to post their opinions in contested threads?

Re: Tekkit v. BTW

I think that's mostly Greg's tech you're noticing there. His mod adjusts a whole load of recipes to make IC2 a bit more balanced (though in some cases I'd have to say tedious instead). I agree with him that solarpanels are a totally cheap trick, though he really made them late game tech, I believe :P

You know, I didn't even think about that... died like 5 times in the nether finding a nether fort and trying to set up some kind of blaze farm (never tried that one before, and failed at any rate) - guess I could have looked for a desert instead. And thank you for demonstrating that players will al...

...Railcraft has come a hell of a long way, and is by far my favorite Forge tech-mod now... Have to say that Railcraft indeed looks very promising. Pointing fingers at people is hardly constructive. If you have proof, then by all means, post it, but let's not turn all this into a witch-hunt.

Dangerous topic to choose for your post, but the content doesn't seem too unreasonable, so sure, let's try for a constructive comparison. Post probably would've been better in off-topic, though. That having been said: I've never played tekkit, but a few weeks ago I did decide to try out the Feed the...

Second floor, right side, topmost one of the third set of chests against the back wall. And that's likely where they'll stay, as I don't particularly like the look and know that if I place a creeper head in the world, it'll end up freaking me out sooner or later.

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of December 3rd)

There goes my ability to ever build vanilla-style again. While playing Thaumcraft 3 over the past week, I noticed I really, really, really miss the sidings and such and well, I suspect that feeling will only get worse once I've had a chance to play around with these item-combinations...

My opinion, huh? Well, not sure whether you'll like it, but here goes: First off I don't think you want our opinions. You wanted to gripe about what you perceive as issues with the MC community as a whole. Now griping can be a good thing when done properly, as it certainly can get a point across and...

Hah! Now that's style.

I have to say I quite like the thaumonomicon mechanism. It's like an in-game wiki, but limited to those parts you've already discovered.

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of November 27th)

I don't think vMC lends itself to that kind of hot-swapping of blockIDs. I suspect it would complicate the code unnecessarily, which is what I'm trying to get away from. Had there been one accessor that turned a blockID into the actual instance of the block, then it might've been possible (provided...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of November 27th)

Why would you need new block IDs for home dirt/sand/ect.? Is there not a way that you could use vMC dirt/sand/ect for Home but change the rules they follow? I am very ignorant when it comes to coding, but I don't understand why this is not an option. If it is possible, it would cut down on the numb...

Stone brick corner placement SMP

Stone brick and wood corners are ending up in the wrong spots in SMP. They do seem to be fine in singleplayer, though.
