I still remember that the first lightsource I crafted was a redstone torch...
It was very dark in the caves until I found normal torches.
And I had about 32 red torches desperately placed around my bed, to avoid mob spawn at night, wich of course, didn´t worked. (Bed was too near to wall :p)

It is the Red from the yellow edition, that´s why he has the three starter and the pikachu, wich refuses to be evolved.
I think he pretty much reflects a typical yellow edition player. (Unless you don´t like that your Pika walks behind you)

As far as I know it just means that equipped armor does count as a rare drop. The thing with items that are picked up and not dropped by the mobs sounds like an issue.
