Rosetta stone is the brand name of choice. It isn't affordable though, at 200$ or more per language.
It is easy to pirate, if you are of a morally ambiguous persuasion.

Re: How did you guys learn redstone?
Redstone logic is a complex field. You build up the logic out of a series of gates. While it would be possible to learn these gates through trial and error, I really recommend you at least look up the simple ones. I admire your spirit of experimentation and self reliance. And in that spirit I will s...

Re: Mount & Blade: My newest obsession
One of the things I didn't like very much is that lots of the people who have quests for you are tedious to find. You navigate the towns mostly by using menus (visit the inn, visit the castle) but to find some people you have to head off on foot. Finding the guildmaster in cities, and the mayor in v...

Can you define the spirit of BTW?
One phrase that gets seen a lot on the suggestion forums is "not in the spirit of btw". And quite rightly too, different mods for different themes is a crucial design concept. But it is also a somewhat nefarious criticism. I mean, what is the spirit of BTW? (I know the literal spirit is th...

Re: Wedding music
You could always opt for a bit of Johnny Cash. It's way too low for me (I constantly get in trouble doing karaoke versions of his songs), but perfect if you're a baritone. The only problem might be subject matter. I'd definitely stay away from "Folsom Prison Blues", "Solitary Man&quo...

Re: Properties of materials randomized at world generation
Yeah, as has been said a million times already, this doesn't fit the spirit of btw one bit. I could see it being a very interesting mod, but it's far too much of a departure from vMC to fit into BTW I think you're evaluating the two examples I gave (smelting and horticulture). I'm not suggesting ei...

Yeah, I envision some sort of data layer that would randomize and track these properties. I don't imagine any change to world gen would be required.

Re: If monsters attacked animals...
It would be neat of you needed to protect your herd animals from maurading monsters. If there was some mechanic where you wanted them out in the pasture during the day to eat, but locked up inside a barn at night for safety, I can see lots of gameplay possibilities there.

Properties of materials randomized at world generation
The idea is that at world creation you have a list of properties, and a list of materials. But instead of assigning the properties to specific materials, the properties are assigned randomly at world generation. I'm going to elaborate here with a specific example of the system applied to smelting, b...

Re: Mount & Blade: My newest obsession
Does anybody have any tips on how to start? I like to start out generally avoiding combat. I'll certainly jump any bandits who cross my path, but I don't seek out battle. Instead, in the early going I focus on trade. My first goal is to get a "collect taxes" mission from a noble. When I g...

You can usually judge how addictive a game will be by how active the mod community is. And M&B has a bunch of good ones. For the single player game, I recommend the diplomacy mod, which adds a bunch of options for running your personal holdings.

Would you prefer to go from a swamp zone into a snow zone? :P I understand that this demo was more of a server test than a "here is a teaser, buy our game" test. But yes, I would have prefered they show us more art assets, more scenary, and even allow the game to be played at something ab...

I won't be buying the final. Even playing with a friend, and having the added enjoyment of seeing things for the first time, we got bored after about an hour. We soldiered on and beat the Skeleton King, but have no real interest in playing again. It does some things well, but I found it generic. The...

Crusader kings 2 - Play it, love it
Crusader Kings is a sandbox game set in Europe and the middle East between 1066 and 1450. The basic idea is that you start as a member of one of the great houses of europe, and as one generation dies you get to take over as the next generation; building up the power and prestige of your house along ...
