Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of November 27th)
Game engines can't generally be replaced as you go like that. Everything is all entertwined into the engine. It would be like trying to rip out pieces of a skyscrapers frame and replacing sections while keeping the building still open for operation. It would be faster and easier to just build a new...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of November 27th)
Well, I've read the whole thread and I was dropping by just as support because, seriously, dealing with Moejang Qualyti Davlopment must be as tiring and frustrating as trying to dig a rock with a spoon. Then, I got an idea. The main con against your own game would be the dev time needed to make the ...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft Annoyances
Sometimes I'm reminded of why I prefer open source software. What we're all talking about here is a proper "Fork" of minecraft, where vanilla goes one direction and BTW goes another. And yes, it might be better in the long run. The right of forking is a mixed blessing... it works quite we...

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation
I think it's pretty apparent from the bugginess of the features that have been coming out man. Notch was a single guy working alone for much of MC's development, and he had no intention of making an API for a lot of it. So of course he took shortcuts, that was perfectly understandable. The new stuf...

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation
Phew... so, it's worse than I thought: they'll rewrite it just to put in the top of a framework, instead rewriting just the buggy parts.FlowerChild wrote:It's better than the code I've seen coming out of the new guys.
(Thanks for clarifying this for me.)

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation
You obviously know this more than me, but I see a rewrite as healthy. People often say that, while Notch is creative and imaginative, he's kinda prone to making buggy and spaghetti code, is this true?

Re: FlowerChild's Dev Diary: Week of September 2nd
As some of you may have noticed from the related off-topic thread, I also spent some time optimizing network usage with regards to the mechanical system (namely Gear Boxes and Pulleys), and I suspect I've gotten the total amount of traffic that is consumed during on/off state change down to about 1...

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation
On topic: I can't recall where I read it, but if memory serves I believe I once read that Dinnerbone was talking about Minecraft itself being built on the API (which by that point wouldn't be an API but a framework/platform) which would allow for very powerful mods and customization as they'd be tr...

Re: Thoughts from the nether - Pigmen, redstone and magnets
I know it's necro*, but let me put some bits of insight in this discussion? FC's canon - natural redstone is leaked Netherrack combined with gold deposits - has two problems: 1. Until Steve?'s arrival, there's no uncombined Netherrack in the Overworld; and 2. The Nether has both Netherrack and gold,...

First of all: welcome to the boards, Dune Freak. Besides Battosay's LP, another two places where you can learn more about the mod - specially automatizing things - are http://www.sargunster.com/btwforum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4689 (Useful builds that get the job done), and http://sargunster.com/btw...

Updates for Linux section. 1. Installing Dropbox from the repositories will give you less headaches than from the site. For .deb (Debian, Mint, Ubuntu) distros, a simple "sudo apt-get install dropbox" without quotes in the terminal will install it and the dependencies - similar methods are...

I also intend to try and tackle the problem of all these invisible chunks popping up all over the place [...] Oh, the irony. While a modder try to address one of the IMO most hated bugs in Minecraft, Mojang is wasting time with... potatoes, carrots, and stuff that would suit better mods, not vMC. (...

Re: My problem with food in vMC
To the contrary, your body knows exactly what it lacks. Have you ever gotten a sudden craving for a certain type of food? That's your body telling you that it's missing something contained in that food. It'd be kind of a crappy machine that couldn't tell what inputs it needed. ...well, our bodies s...

Re: Hardcore sheep (spoilerish)
Also from a coder standpoint(sort of) the RGB values have to round to the closest color in the game, since none of us has seen something crazy like chartruese(sp?) or peach, and I don't think FC would go to all the trouble of making infinite colors in the game. So if all the values were near the li...

Re: Happiness... (What the hell is it?)
Growing up happens. It doesn't fucking care if you want it or not, someday everybody fights exactly what you're fighting now. You're in the typical age where we don't have a clue of what we're doing and what we're supposed to do. So, first thing: no, there's nothing wrong in this aspect with you. It...

Re: My problem with food in vMC
One thing that I think could be a balance to all of this would be to have all the stuff hidden except the hunger bar(and even that could be hidden for a hardcore mode) and simply have a debuff whenever the player gets dehydrated/has an unbalanced diet/is hungry. And not a specific debuff either. Ha...

I disagree with nutrition system being overcomplicated, depends on the implementation... a 3-way (carbohydrate, protein, fat) one would be kinda cool. Being RPG-like for me is a bonus, not a malus, and farmables are nice - the more, the better. But I understand why you guys are against it, however -...

1. Actually, I do believe every single one is a special snowflake. Everyone. What people don't realize is, being special is "un-special" by itself, and the chance you're really special in the point that matters for that community in that context is almost zero. 2. Our brains are constantly...

I got the same problem with shroom cows once. Simply put, swimming for ~2km with a wheat in hand, stopping every single time one of that stupid psychedelic blobs of leather and meat got lost, I've managed to bring them home. So, it's not that hard. Hint: start bringing four or five to keep yourself ...

If my hypothesis is correct, a very, very patient breeder can get all the 16 sheep colors without using a simple drop of dye. I think you are wrong, From what I understood from FC's post, every color combination has certain available mutations. For instance, breeding 2 white sheep will have a ~1/50...

Cows breedable only after stewing pot
Yes, "hardcore cows", bred with a special wheat + bone meal + potash (+ some acid substance?) mix made in the stewing pot. In-game reason: food is plentiful, pigs are useless (overshadowed by cows), make bookshelves a bit harder to get. Tanned leather is unchanged, since it needs the stewi...
