Rather than making your trap bigger, a more effective way to up drop rates is to light up all the caves around it. Go out and spend a few hours caving, and making sure no spawns are possible underground (as much as you can, anyway) and you should start to see a huge increase in mob spawns.

Did you use the world download? If you just rebuilt it, you may have goofed something up with the pulse lengthening circuit, and I recommend you try the world download. Mobs won't move when you dress them in a breeding harness. Animals also can breed from a 1 block distance. They didn't move, just jumped. That wasn't really a problem, it just bugged me.
