Re: New Release! (BTW V4.54)

I have a question regarding the spawning change in nether fortresses: could it make the hibachi technological step a bit steep? I was having trouble collecting a blaze rod before these changes, so I'm worried it will make it even more difficult. (I'm not a luddite, just a noob!) I really like the wa...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of December 31st)

Add another voice to the chorus of "Thanks FC". I've been playing Minecraft a lot again thanks to you, did my first automatic machines and even a mob trap (which I hadn't done before) ... and all this while constantly dying with hardcore spawn on. Which led me to start building my first ev...

Re: What is BWF?

I've read this whole thread, and the MCF thread as well. I don't have much to give, except for my support. I'm a very casual Minecraft player. On good weeks, I manage to play for a couple hours. And BTW really gave me the incentive to get back into this game. It taught me about automation. It taught...

I'm also a model railroad fan, and the first thing I though of when I saw that bridge is building a huge rail network, just for the looks of it. This is amazing.

Re: Hardcore spawn story, and a question

I spent two minecraft days in my lovely village before dying (I arrived during the night, and died two nights later). So I guess the reset spawn time is shorter than that (unless there is a random element in it).

Hardcore spawn story, and a question

Good evening, I died twice tonight. The first one killed by pigmen in the nether (I don't know what happened: I was just hit by a blaze fireball and it seems a pigman may have been wounded in the process, so they all took a strong dislike of me). I wake up in the desert, in some unknown place, but r...

Re: Best intro to automation?

Here are some of the very basic automatic systems I've built, as I'm so low in the tech tree (no hibachi yet) and haven't learned enough about redstone. I present them in the order I built them. First, the automation of the collecting of stuff from the windmill. I'm pretty proud of the water flow, a...

Slime is a tacky material that is used for creating things like sticky-pistons, while Glue is a permanent adhesive. Several mod recipes have been changed to reflect this, but the end result is that they ...

Re: Best intro to automation?

Yeah, Hemp or Reed farms are probably a great first step. Actually, even before then you can just setup an auto-mill-stone that is fed by a hopper and channels the output off to another hopper and chest using water flow (which lends itself much more to automation than the "floor of Hoppers&quo...

Re: Jeet Plays Better Than Wolves - Episode 3

You don't even need to refill it: if you right-click fast enough, you can get the block of water back, with some of it spilling in the lava (typically 2 or 3 blocks away). I seem to remember that being a no-no. Seems a bit cheaty to me at least. I'll stick with making the aqueducts or routing water...

Re: Jeet Plays Better Than Wolves - Episode 3

You know that even with hard-core buckets, buckets still work well enough to turn lava into obsidian, right? As in you might have to refill your bucket a few times, but it still works? Right? You don't even need to refill it: if you right-click fast enough, you can get the block of water back, with...

Well, that or hold onto the videos and only release them after a certain time period's up, and/or after their base gets raided/destroyed? Once the base is gone and s/he has to re-establish somewhere else anyways, they have nothing to lose by making it all public. This would be great to advertise an...

Re: Hardcore spawn not taken into account?

The easiest way to check if hardcore spawn is on is: create a new world, dig a hole directly at the place where you spawn and kill yourself (just use the command /kill) If hardcore spawn is off, you will respawn in the hole. If it is on, you will find yourself someplace else. Note that after you ha...

Re: Hardcore spawn not taken into account?

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. The funny bit is that I was persuaded to be very far from home: it took me a couple game days before I started recognizing some of the features of the landscape. So I was well on my way to dig to gather redstone, and I was having a blast: it's the fun of starting a ...

Hardcore spawn not taken into account?

Hello, I've enabled hardcore spawn in BTWConfig.txt, and after having died I'm wondering if it's taken into account, as I respawned at (or very close to) my initial spawn. I have BTWConfig.txt in the ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft folder (I'm on OS X), and this is the line in it for hardcor...

I really like this texture pack. I've noticed something strange however: there is a small shimmering on the double chests when moving. Is it something already known?

Hostile wolves?

Hello, I've had something strange happen in my BTW world, and I was wondering what is going on. I have a bunch of tunnels under my base, where I work during the night. At some point I met a wolf. I have no idea how it got there. It was a wild, untamed wolf. As I did not need any additional wolf at t...

Yes. And playing with hardcore spawn will make me twice or thrice as cautious ;-) Now I just need to wait until the kids go to bed to get to it.

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of October 23rd)

The rather drastic impact this will have on BTW though, is no pig breeding until you find a village. I look forward to some awesome overworld exploration with a stack of the larger maps :) You're forgetting kibble. This is great, because it means animal breeding become more dependent on technology:...

Best way to obtain a blaze rod?

Hello, I'm slowly making my way up on the BTW tech tree, and after building a wind mill and enjoying some automation with the help of hoppers, I'm now moving to the next step: a hibachi. I have almost all the necessary ingredients with one exception: blaze powder to build an element. So I guess I ne...

Re: Chicken automation / Swimming vs nesting chickens

I still use the same chicken farm I always did. Push chickens into a village well, dig down the outside a few meters and install hoppers underneath. Seeds float to the top to be eaten, raw eggs sink to be collected by the hoppers. Add dispensers on a timer to toss in seeds and crack the occasional ...

Re: Redstone: a quick reference quide

I've been experimenting with the piston and I don't see what it adds to the circuit. It seems that when the piston receives power, it extends, allowing the redstone torch to power the dust through the pushed block. When the piston stops receiving power, the block retracts and cuts power to the outpu...
