Re: The enchanting system really amazes me sometimes...

Sounds amazing. All of it, the ancient tomes, the ritualistic bookshelf layout. All of it. Should've been done like that in the first place. Did anyone else learn the alphabet before findin' out it doesn't mean jack shit? Yeah. Yep, I learned the alphabet from the Commander Keen games where it was ...

Re: "Mojam"

Hey I just stumbled upon this and thought I might post it here ... with all the talk about Notch possibly funding or helping to fund Psychonauts 2, it looks like he has some other plans for charity. I sometimes check out Ludame Dare (sorry I'm so horrible with names) and it seems to somewhat take o...

Re: Eureka! (part deux)

Aha, I think I figured it out! With all the talk of zombies attacking villagers, FC is changing villagers to drop brains on death for luring zombies and making Frankenstein monsters! I'm sure there is more to it than this, though, just need to figure out the rest.

Re: Right clicking with gear in hand

I assume you are talking about just a gear and not the gearbox, in which case, isn't this true of every item that isn't a tool and can't be placed? Isn't it default minecraft behaviour to swing your arm when you click, regardless of whether you are holding an item or not.

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation

They apparently run faster than zombies shamble and can usually outrun them. Which means you tend to already have survivors, even without actual self-defense added yet. Plus, the chunk in question would need to be loaded for them to come under attack, meaning that the player would have to be nearby...

Re: Annnnnd... 12W07A is out

I'm sure the terrain generation modder's will figure out a way to have the mountains above 128 before we know it. Oh yeah, already been done, they'll probably be updated in time for 1.2 to be released now that the new file format is known, whereas previously they would only work if you had cubic ch...

Re: Annnnnd... 12W07A is out

I had thought they had mentioned at some point that they wouldn't (ever?) change the terrain gen to go above 128 blocks so it wouldn't negatively affect performance. The change seems to be there just to support player buildings. In a way, I prefer it this way as it means that if you find an epic mou...

Re: Morvelaira's News Compilation

Some nights in villages will be worse than others… Looks like new moons (guessing) will cause zombie sieges, good self limiting mechanism for villager population, though I'm still wondering how any will survive past a week though, as after a couple of nights almost all the doors in the village will...

Re: Minecraft inspired RTS

I don't recall them saying at any point that they were inspired by Minecraft. And if we're going to start guessing at their inspirations, Dwarf Fortress is infinitely more likely to be their primary inspiration as it's the same exact genre as Castle Story. I'm reluctant to call Dwarf Fortress style...

Minecraft inspired RTS

Castle Story Still in the pre-alpha stage, but it looks promising. You design castles and designate mines, and your bricktron minions gather and build for you. At a later stage they will add fighting and castle defence features. They are using the Unity engine, which I know little about, so not sur...

Re: Question about wolf breeding in the pre-releases

I haven't played it myself yet, but from Morv's news there was a comment about this. I think they were only allowing wolves to enter breeding mode if they were at max health, otherwise food would just heal them.

Roll back to 1.8 or whichever version they were introduced, you couldn't dig 30 blocks without hitting one, made lighting up the underground such a pain if you wanted an efficient mob grinder.

Re: A question for cat owners...

About 25% of cats have different chemical recptors and are unaffected by catnip. The odd ones out tend to have a similar reaction to honeysuckle. Yeah, so I see from watching the infotainment video linked above. There must be a honeysuckle scent in our cat scratching post then, he often goes crazy ...

Re: A question for cat owners...

We have a tunnel that we spray with liquid catnip, one of our cats just goes and hotboxes in there. The other cat seems entirely unaffected by catnip, but then he is already daft.

The odd thing I've noticed with catnip is sometimes it just chills them out and sometimes they just go mental.

When I start a new world, I always cheat with TMI to give myself a starter kit of torches, an axe and a pick, then never use it again. Yes, they don't take long to get legit, but I've done the punching wood progression to death, it doesn't hold much enjoyment, I'd rather just get on with things. In ...

Re: Please ignore anything I say in the next 48 hours

I've had mixed results with dentists, my current one is nice and explains everything he does, instead of just attacking you willy nilly with steel tools until the blood gets in the way of progressing further. That said the last tooth I had pulled was a wisdom tooth that was supposed to take 30 mins....

Re: Problems with Sonic Ether's Unbelivable Shaders mod

I haven't used the shader mod for a long time, but IIRC there are multiple composite.fsh files in different folders, hopefully on the MC forums they describe which folder to look in, but when I used it I found the available information very hit or miss.

Re: Mobs on day one?

I've seen this in every version of minecraft I've played, so I don't think anything has changed. As long as it's dark enough (under heavy trees, in a surface cave or during rain) mobs can spawn. The only difference about day one is that there hasn't been a night before, so there are no mobs spawned ...

Re: On fixing mob AI

Ooh, this is going to piss of a lot of people who play vMC. As stated, most vanilla mobtrap designs rely on mobs thinking signs are full blocks so they just walk right over them and fall to their doom. Also if the detection of halfsteps is fixed, this implies that mobs may be able to spawn on half b...

Re: Protesting against SOPA

The problem with these protestations is that they are international websites protesting a US policy change. Yes it makes sense since most of them are based in the US, but international people don't get any say in the policy one way or the other (even if it would have a negative worldwide effect).
