What setting is your bellows turntable on? If you have it set to something too fast, the fire may not be stoked properly. The ideal setting for the turntable is the third tick. If your bellows is pumping to fast, it may appear to be working, but instead letting the fire go unstoked occasionally.

If its close to the fire, make sure all the sides are covered so it doesn't burn. Gearboxes tend to catch fire.

Some of the chests in the map contain saplings, so if you didn't get anything it's not game over. Just keep playing through the map and you'll find em fairly quickly :)

If you currently have to hit the lever twice to get the correct timing for the bellows, try removing half of your repeaters and only hit it once. Unless I am confused and you are doing something very strange, that should solve your problem.

If you're using MCP, take a look at eclipse. If I recall correctly, there's a readme file that comes with the MCP download that has instructions for setting it up correctly to work with MC.

move your kiln structure one block closer to your hibachi, you want the bottom brick block to be occupying the space that the upper part of the stoked fire is currently. You only want one block space between your hibachi and kiln.
