I am using the multi-core version of optifine and well whenever I install it then try to load a world I get the same error and when I don't use optifine and just use the plain old patcher HD settings then it works fine... It is very well done, but is a little old now, it doesn't include vMC light blocks passing redstone current up, nor some of the simpler circuits that can be made with pistons.

Have you moved your minecraft install? It might be forcing the update to the old location if so.

Otherwise you can safely just delete everything in your bin folder to force a redownload of all the files, although you can usually just get away with deleting the minecraft.jar.
