Re: Computer Issues (laptops)

If you do go the new laptop route, I would personally avoid Alienware. They tend to be overly costly for what you get and over-marketed. I've had some great experiences with Xotic PC , they have a great selection and really helpful support (plus some pretty wild customization options, if that's your...

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.84)

Note that BTW will no longer function with ModLoader installed, and thus is now likely incompatible with all mods that make use of it. There was a time a while ago when I made a joke in a thread regarding the "phases" you had planned for BTW, in which I stated that phase 12 or so would be...

Sorry, but using sand in that manner is pretty sploity man, hence why it didn't even occur to me. I'd suggest looking for another method, as there are plenty that don't rely on such behavior. Ha, the lengths I went to get the thing to work in the space I had certainly didn't feel like taking shortc...

Hrm. This just broke my soul urn factory. Is there any way to automate piles back into blocks, or is it back to hand-loading for me?

I played Proteus when it was in "early dev" like a year or so ago, and was really impressed with it, so when I saw it come up in the bundle I immediately looked into it. My problem was that, despite a year or so passing, the game was still exactly the same as when I played the early beta o...

Re: Need advice for reining in ideas

If the point of this is to tell a story, then character matters more than anything else. This can't be stressed enough, really. I just watched The Amazing Spiderman again the other day, and right at the end there's this scene (relevant until the 50sec mark) which really tells you all you need to kn...

Re: Need advice for reining in ideas

Something that I've found helpful while writing, especially when I have a bumper crop of ideas to cover, is that not everything needs to be explained. This is a lot easier to do in a fantasy or soft sci-fi setting where hand-waving is more permissible, but the gist is that if you're reluctant to let...

Re: Any reason for no torchlight?

Every game engine has it's strengths and weaknesses depending on what it was designed to do - you're doing the equivalent of asking why a tractor can't use the motorways or why a Lamborghini isn't sold with a tow hook. This is a very good way to look at it too. FC mentioned in a thread a while back...

Re: Any reason for no torchlight?

Coles Notes version: It's because of the block update system and how lighting affects it. If you place a torch, the blocks within its reach only update once, to reflect the torch being placed. If you had a mobile torch, every block in its reach would have to update every single time it moved. So eve...
