Doesn't work if the anchor is attached to an overhang, which are very common in the nether.

I've been experimenting with the rope and anchor lately in cave diving and noticed a flaw. I got around this problem by placing a minecart track next to my mob tower. The track is a loop, and it sends me to and from the tower. When I'm away from the tower, mobs spawn but don't move, but then when i get close again they start moving. I hooked up one of the booster rails to a 5 minute clock...

You guys are missing the bright side of this tho. When 1.3 comes out, singleplayer = multiplayer, which means when BTW updates for it...there's a good chance it will be SMP compatible.

Yeh but that piston + water thing uses a massive amount of space compared to just putting in a normal BTW elevator. It might be all you need this time, but the next time you need vertical transport play around with platforms and you will find they are far superior.
