Re: Smooth stone generator

Having them two blocks apart and digging a hole one block deeper under the lava so it always flows downward help keep the generator running. Surely the hole will clog up with cobblestone? Testing this now. My factory uses only a single water stream/setup instead of two; two of four setups consisten...

Re: Java lessons [obsolete]

I tried to learn Java last summer; I was very glad to go back to Python. Java is horrible by comparison. I imagine I'll give it another try some day in the distant future (Or I might try C++ instead, try to be a Real Programmer).

Not that I'd want to put you guys off or anything =P.

Yes. Hell yes. I wasn't expecting this for ~another week, FC you are awesome. I am going to play the living daylights out of this.

On Tuesday maybe. Maybe next time I won't procrastinate until the last possible weekend to do important work? Hahah, no.

Re: [Discussion] Creepers

In my mind, creepers make for the best fights in the game. There's tension, and a pressure to play near-perfectly or be punished for it. But ~90% of the time they hurt you, it's not going to be because you lost a duel at dawn with the green camo buggers. They'll drop out of nowhere and mess up your ...

Re: A Method To Locate Dungeons

To return to the topic, how about something that renders the world below it transparent, like giving a block a see-through texture when it's supposed to be opaque? Something in the vein of a multi-block-system "scrying pool" perhaps? Seems more appropriate than a widget that goes ding when...

Re: Integrating black dye into the tech tree

There is still the insanely expensive mobtrap that uses pistons and pressureplates. Mobs spawn on plates only, and as soon as they spawn pistons push them to your funnel, which directs them to the grinder with either water if you don't want endermen, or piston funnels if you do. How about periodica...

Do we think the problem is more with the simplicity, or is it just that wheat is very abundant? In the latter case, it might be possible that making farming harder will solve this problem as well.

Re: Perpetual Motion (The topic that keeps coming back aroun

Thankyou Stormweaver, that was a very useful clarification. Yes, proto-science (philosophy I think?) frequently echoed religious ideas, and they definitely both have roots in trying to explain the world, but the visible difference today I think underscores how fundamental the difference is between a...

So I'm getting on with my first playthrough using Hardcore Bucket mode and figured I'd avoid necromancy and compliment it here.

Yeah it was a pretty brilliant idea :). I never realised how much I was missing messing around with planning water courses in Dwarf Fortress, you know?

Re: Perpetual Motion (The topic that keeps coming back aroun

The point is that if you 'believe' in the scientific method, then you don't really believe in anything else than that you exist inside this world you experience, and in 'what you see'. The problem is, that's a HUGE assumption, definitely comparable to any religious tenet. What. I'd say science is a...

Re: The End of Minecraft

I see a twisted BTW-specific ending story in the cards ;) Perhaps involving that Lovecraftian compulsion to keep writing even as one is being devoured ? I've certainly sometimes envisioned an endgame in contrast to "kill dragon, receive Winner's Medal," with Steve being dragged through a ...

Disclaimer : this post contains liberal quantities of negative opinion. To be upfront honest: the end seems to me better than a lot of possible ends, but... Eww, seriously? Bad story. Worst end. Hmm, you have good taste. It's one of the better fanfics on the 'net, though it's a bit rationalist-preachy. If I didn't overwhelmingly agree with the author's reasoning, it might seem terrible. It IS pretty much hilarious though. As to feeling inferior, you have a huge advantage on update speed :P....

Re: New Release (BTW V2.98)

On another post you said about how you had many decimals to use before you had to release 3.0. I hate to seem over critical, but you could have called this one 2.97.5 as it is only a bug fix. Psht, there's still infinitely many real numbers between this and 3.0. That's probably enough. On a more se...
