Re: Optimal Melon Farm Layout
"Optimal" depends on what you're trying to optimize for. In the early game, something like DiamondArms' cross is unbeatable - it returns the best yield per seed possible, when you're usually short on seeds. However, as the farm expands, it gets kinda clumsy and spacious, you're using 5 spa...

Re: HC-sheep: Can I breed white sheep?
If anything the colour genes are recessive, meaning if you are reliably getting coloured lambs, the dominant white gene has been entirely bred out or it would have already expressed within a few generations. I did some tests; while they weren't as extensive as needed, I think this isn't the case. R...

Re: Hardcore Caste System
There are three castes: farmer blacksmith+butcher librarian+priest. It doesn't really matter which caste is above the other, as long as you see them as distinct. To start a "complete" village (provided you have enough diamonds) you'll need one Testificate from each caste; breeding a blacks...

Knowing German is not a significant advantage. Well, then I guess there's no harm translating it, right? jorgebonafe , here's the translation: "beginning transmission 5-2-3-8-7 [3x] ending transmission" List of stuff I tried to no success: Checking the file in a hex editor. Checking for M...

Re: I am beginning to believe that nether portals hate me
derevik , how much are you digging in the Nether between each portal? As dawnraider mentioned, oceans in Minecraft can be really large; I usually bet ~10km each. So it's usually worth digging through 20 stacks of netherrack (640m in the Nether) between each portal attempt. (And yes, you'll use a lo...

Re: Mating Villagers [Possible Spoilers]
Librarian/Priest + Blacksmith/Butcher = Only limited to one of the parents, or can they be the alternate of each side? I'm not sure, but I think it's possible to get, say, a priest from butcher vs. librarian hot action. However, since the odds should be smaller (since you'll get butchers 1/2 of the...

Since I was ninja'd by pretty much everyone, FC included, I'll just comment about some things. I personally think BTW is turning into more of a survival game then the cognitive challenge [...] But the survival game isn't replacing the cognitive challenges - it's adding more and justifying the ones i...

Re: What infrastructure do you focus on?
I used to focus first on defending a huge territory... but then I realized it was a waste of time, torches and stone. Nowadays, my main focus is a road network in a half day perimeter around The Capital (main base), with some markings (2 planks in angle + torch) pointing to the roads. If I create ne...

Re: Show us your builds!
Wouldn't they flood pretty easily when it rains? I checked climate tables for some Scandi cities; in the wettest capital in the wettest month (Oslo, September), it usually rains 9cm through the whole month. With the natural drainage of the soil, this means flooding is the least concern, at most the...

Re: Fracking Lava
Since I'm greedy and lazy, if I find "troll diamonds" near the lava I make sure I'll grab them instead of looking for more in another place. You don't need to dredge the whole lava lake, just the blocks around the diamonds in question. Then mine one block of sand [to make sure the diamond ...

Re: The BTSM/BTW divide
Honestly, I still need to try KSP, but my personal life has been busy lately... so when I have time to play, I end playing always the same games: Minecraft [both with and without BTW], Binding of Isaac, Nethack and sometimes Spacechem. But you can be quite sure that if I buy KSP, I'll dive straight ...

Well, after playing with it a bit, some feedback: I'll definitively want to use Ender Blocks as a building material for details, but then I guess I'll need an ender farm for that. :)FlowerChild wrote:-snip-

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.99999A0D Marsupial??!!)
Gravel and sand slabs, ender pearl storage blocks: you know, even if you focus mainly in gameplay, some of the blocks you add are really fun for aesthetic purposes. Assuming the ender storage blocks are the same colour as the ender pearls, I bet they'll combo nicely with sandstone. HC caste system c...
