Re: The Martian

Hehe, so you can partly thank me for dialling down expectations :P I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had the background covered by the book, so I had the gritty info in my head instead of a huge gap where the movie explains virtually nothing but still makes big claims of sciencing stuff. And...

Re: Steam Sales

Oh, and boy did this game ever remind me how much I hate cut-scenes. It gave my escape key quite the work out in skipping them :) Young morm would rage on about how engrossing they can be and how they pull you in etc. But then again, blizzard was the only one who could pull off interesting cutscene...

Slightly off topic but not completely. This is very interesting and somewhat related to some of the themes of the book/film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yAcD3wuY2Q

All my observations from my countless hours of playing mc seem to comply with what you said though. If something else is going on it must be very obscure or hard to come across/notice.

Re: Animals in 4.A (spoliers)

That is interesting. Recently I covered a huge area of my world with mycelium, creating a custom mushroom biome. Since there is no grass for chunks upon chunks, And I plan to make a brown mushroom forest with a thick "canopy", it will be very interesting to observe animal behaviour in the ...

Re: Prison Architect 1.0

I still haven't touched this game ever though I got it ages ago. Does anyone know if it is mod friendly? I'm kinda scared development will come at an abrupt halt at some point and we will be left with an unfinished game.. I mean given what you say above the official 1.0 release is anything but a pol...

Re: The Martian

By the time that movie came out, I had read the novel years before and had already become a big fan of Heinlein (can't handle reading him anymore due to the bidet and polygamy obsession mind you), so I think I was fairly incapable of just enjoying the movie for what it was. It's always rough going ...

totally into small budget indie sci-fi films like Moon Now you are making me go totally off topic but man, that movie was one of my best cinema experiences. Not only was the movie absolutely brilliant, I had the extreme luck of watching it in an amazing theater. It was a very old actual stage theat...

Re: The Martian

My problem is not the swearing, my problem is that line is cheesy as fuck, and 100% pandering to the "fuck yeah science" crowd, a demographic that is "all about science" as long as it doesn't have anything more complicated than a predigested easily related to metaphor :P It's the...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

The problem is, boats are currently even slower. Given how fast other means of transport are, this is a problem. My take on it would be to make boats accelarate slowly, but reach good top speeds. This way you can use them on open water or specially prepared waterways (terraformed rivers etc) as a vi...

Re: The Martian

While the actual science of the film is grounded in reality, you cannot take the facts seriously because of the way they are presented. It does have one or two inaccuracies or liberties, but that is not the problem. It has a completely inappropriate tone for the subject matter. Maybe the book is thi...

Re: The Martian

Watched it yesterday. One of the worst films I've watched the last few years. My god my brain hurt at the stupidity of the writing and acting in this film. The dialogues (or monologues) were so bad I thought I wanted to leave the theater.. To me it screamed "made to appeal to teens that our mar...

Not gonna lie, taking a dive from height limit and gliding around my world sounds awesome.

What sounds more awesome is tying possessed sheep to minecarts or boats though :P

Looks to me like it is just an implementation of the famous glider mod by the way.

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.A1 Humped Camel) - NO SPOILERS

Something probably a bit off topic but it amused me slightly. Btw is a huge makeover for vmc. It contains staggering changes with very deep complications. In my mind it is that huge undertaking, a massive accomplishment. Yet when I try to download it, it is only 3.7 mb. Obviously it is mostly code, ...

Re: are pre-wheat pigs worth the cost?

Whelp, didn't know that, imagine that! That means that mushroom farming is easily fully automated, all you need is mycelium, saws 2 bds and a good initial supply of shrooms to get started. Of course I have exactly zero use for mushrooms in my world, but I might still build a shroomfarm somewhere awa...

Wait, are mushrooms able to grow without their tops, or is it open at the top and red shrooms are able to grow regardless?

Re: are pre-wheat pigs worth the cost?

Just a quick question to people who have dealt in mushrooms more than me. I was under the impression that the most efficient way to farm shrooms is to use mycelium to make large ones grow, then chop those down (very hard to automate though). With a large enough farm, even though manual work is requi...

Re: Hang in there Notch (Being ultra rich and lonely)

The main issue with being filthy rich in relation to loneliness, is that you live in a completely different world than most other people. Their everyday worries and struggles, you can't really relate to in most cases, and it's hard to talk about mundane things, survival/everyday topics, it is not ea...

That looks deliciously overkill, I approve :P

For comparison, my vine farm has only 8 saws and I have 3-4 doublechests of vine sitting there.
