Re: Game design stories

Many but I'd rather not flood the thread with all of the "Where do I start, how do I ____" questions I would have about Designing games or RPGs, or even testing them. Understandable, however I will direct you to were you can get all of those questions answered, check out the Forge , and S...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

Horses would make pigs obsolete... Of all the other things Mojang could do, having them recreate Mo'Creatures, wouldn't be a bad thing. It will keep them busy, and we can ignore any new mobs. They might even spend some time fixing the entity lagging into the floor bug. And we are sure to get some n...

If you want an easier play experience, lookup a seed that has a mushroom biome near the spawn point.

I started a new world just to give you feedback. Hardcore Wood feels intuitive, after I burnt a few logs, I started prioritizing which trees to cut down. No longer do I just cut down any old tree, what tree I go after depends on what I need more, sticks or fuel. Branch mining with a stone pickaxe, i...

I've just got a nice new iron sword, time to try it out! Gotta get some bones so that I can tame a wolf. Keep on finding wolves but I got no bones.. Today I learned that skeletons are a naturally aquatic creature. Approaching them without full armor when they are in their natural habitat, is a death...

The changed to the torch recipe, has made me conserve each torch. Cured me of my torch spamming ways. The early game play is reminding me of how vMC felt before charcoal was added. Surviving your first night can be a real challenge. I was lucky to find some coal my first day, but only for just two t...

Since FC invited us to continue these stories/conversations elsewhere I made a thread for it, mostly because I find these insights in the life of a game designer to be very interesting, and while listening to the many experienced designers on the forum as well as FC himself has really given some gr...

Oh shit I just realized you're talking about making lard yourself. When I read the title I thought you were talking about making lard out of your own fat. Hmm, I wonder just how much mystery meat that would take.. Heathens. The best pie crust is definitely made with butter, and butter only. Man, I'...

Has anyone noticed if silverfish prefer some stone blocks over others?

I'm not sure, currently running a test. But I think that Silverfish like stone bricks. Or it could be my imagination.

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

This kind of thing does illustrate to me that it is actually something I think about, as throwing in this kind of extraneous single-purpose crap certainly does strike me as wrong, no matter how easy it is to implement. If find that think like a graphic designer helps. Graphic design is a little bit...

This would make maintaining a weapon more of an active decision. If you did find that the vacuum created by stone sword removal needed filling, it might be a good spot for obsidian instead. This is why I didn't offer my suggestions. I'm going to take a moment and talk about good playtesting. I've d...

Re: 4.62 Balance Observations & Discussion

So... I've played the early game with hardcore hunger several times over now and I feel that it's still too easy. I've felt this, my thought was that Stone Swords are too good. They are cheap to make, and almost as good compared to Iron Swords. But they are vastly superior to wooden Swords. And tha...

Yea, Mushrooms spawning is just queer. I had a spot in my storage room, were red mushrooms kept spawning. I'd clean them up, because they were in my walkway. But they would just come back. Thought I was going nuts. Didn't think they could just spawn on their own. This last time I investigated, rippe...

My guesses: Beds , will be used to set a Villager's home. This will fix the problem with them all crowding inside one building.. Trading , will make more sense. He will get rid of the nonsense trades. Maybe give us a way of making villagers happy so that their are willing to trade again. Enchanting ...

I'm looking forward to when Flower finally rips out the default enchanting table. I really hate that thing it's stupid, annoying, and OP all at the same time and it takes away a lot of the motivation for getting arcane scrolls. I wonder how people will handle it when they don't have easy enchants a...

Re: Nether strategies post-HCH

Once you have a brewing stand, start farming Ghasts. Regen potions are ridiculously powerful now. I do agree Withers are very nasty, bring milk. until you can make regen potions. Blazes are no joke now, an enchanted bow is your best bet. Because combat is so deadly, building a nether mob farm is a m...

Let's see: Corner Stairs , because I <3 aesthetic builds. Item frames , I use them a lot. But they are weird; and I hate how they render blocks. Repeater locks , just like BlackCat, I use them for D-Latches, and all kinda redstone stuff. I use Fire Resistance Potions to go scuba diving in the nether...

Re: The potential of lighting

What would be interesting is torches going out if you don't stay near them. That way, the places you visit regularly keep their torchlight. Imagine it's actually Steve routinely relighting torches when he passes by, without having to actually do it. You get the benefits of your proposed game-play, ...

Not all VMC players want to play an easy game.

Here is a post on reddit where they forbade pickaxes, buckets, saplings.. on an SMP server. He used Command Blocks in the spawn chuck on a clock, removed items from player's inventory. So they always fire once a second. I'm amazed that these guys banned Buckets. So to show that FC is on to something...

Also, this just might motivate me to clean out my current silverfish infestation.

It might be possible (I'd have to look at the 1.9 pre 2 code) to actually convert cisterns back into their old counterparts, and allow brewing through them. Well, after a few days of looking over the code, I have managed to recreate 1.9 pre 2 brewing in 1.4.7. Unfortunately, I can't replace the van...
