Re: The Souls series

I finished my first playthrough of DS3 yesterday, mostly solo (dancer and twin princes wrecked me). I liked it. The game, of course, has problems - a major one being that player chars don't really have any poise, even with the games heaviest armour sets. A slightly less major one being that, lacking...

Re: Arcen Games in trouble, again

If it's a true twin-stick shooter with those same kind of progression elements, I think I'm sold. Aye, same kind of progression, and it pulls a very similar risk/reward thing regarding trading life/survivability for the more powerful passive skills which I always liked in BOI. Finally killed the bo...

Re: Arcen Games in trouble, again

Well, i may has solved the mystery of starward rouge having great reviews and poor sales. It's a great twinstick shoot-em-up - the action can be as fast-paced as you want, the weapons + upgrades have a decent amount of variety and some very powerful combos, the room design is a solid mix of puzzles ...

Well, that sucks. Only really played TFL and AI war from them, but they're damned good games.

Re: Aurora, a 4x space game with a complexity comparable to

*what numbers are acceptable? I was really proud of my super-awesome laser cruiser with 8000km/s tracking and 160 000km range until i got nuked by a missile salvo from literally a thousand times that range by 20 000 km/s missiles. Which turns out is a pretty standard type missile. So basically, ear...

I've spent a couple of days giving it a bash - it's pretty damned good. I can see myself losing a lot of time to it over the next few months.

Much easier to learn and get started in than DF.

Re: Exposed spoilers will bring swift death. The Force Awake

I saw it yesterday. I'm not a huge fan of star wars, but the film was pretty what with the explosions and laser swords and stuff. I'm going to guess it's just intended as a light introduction to the protagonists of the next set of films though, since there isn't a whole lot of 'important' stuff that...

Re: Steam Sales

Did anybody pick up Elite: Dangerous during this sale? What are your first impressions? Are there people here that played it for longer, and if so, what is your opinion of it? Katalliaan and MaxAstro talked about buying/owning it in this thread, I'd love to hear more from you. I'm thinking about pi...

Re: Steam Sales

I have a feeling it would have turned out to be a much better game if they hadn't gone so hard on the permadeath mechanics in the game. Yeah, I was thinking something similar. There's just not enough randomization in the game to justify playing the early game repeatedly and IMO the focus on long-wi...

Picked up Sunless Sea at 40% off and I've been enjoying it quite a bit. Decided to grab this as well, and have also been enjoying it. Not sure if it has much in the way of legs (on my 2nd character and getting a very samey feeling already) I have a feeling it would have turned out to be a much bett...

Re: Steam Sales

I think 67% is the deepest discount Elite: Dangerous has gotten so far.

I'm going to have to look it up again - I remember the last time I was thinking of getting it I didn't feel there was enough game in there to keep my painfully short attention span.

I picked up Hacknet on the midweek madness sale for a fiver. It's a hacking simulator that has you searching through a simulated network of computers for information, passwords and programs that allow you to progress through the story. All in all, it was pretty good. Great soundtrack, Great visuals,...

Brit here - I sometimes forget weather can be anything other than cloudy.

On the above, the whole 'I like my' part kinda implies it was a joke based on personal taste in relationships rather than bigotry FC.

Re: are pre-wheat pigs worth the cost?

I'm not changing any of that. I suspect Notch put those density rules in place to prevent mushrooms blanketing the world with time, and that's not something I want to have happen either :) I remember way back in an earlier version (The world I built my first auto-tree farm, iirc) I had some pretty ...

Reassembly is 33% off at the moment. It's...interesting. I've sunk a good 13 hours into it in a couple of days and have had fun so far - Modular, Physics-based ship building and destrustion is always fun, and there's a kerbal-like quality that will leave you designing a ship for half an hour, givin...

picked it up a couple of days ago out of boredom, gave it a spin. It's not bad. works well as a game to have in the background to distract yourself with every 10 mins when you think you've got a problem sorted out.

Worth it for a fiver. It's no spacechem, but nothing is really.

Path of Exile - 2.0 update

The long: Path of exile is a diablo-esque ARPG with a whole lot of flexibility in character building - it's entirely free to play (the only microtransactions that are not cosmetic are practically worthless untill you've sunk a good 40-50 hours into the game - more than enough time to get your fill) ...

Re: Terraria 1.3 (Hide your spoilers)

I gave it a quick spin (I'm not the biggest fan of terraria). Decided to try thier new 'expert' mode...one zombie started hitting me for ~60 damage on the first night.

Not sure if artificial difficulty or a huge incentive to not try hitting undead hoardes with glorified sticks. Interesting though.
