Re: Block Detector Piston Ring Hemp Farm
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend this method. It costs too much and still isn't a very good use of a Block Detector. I just thought it would be interesting to see.

Block Detector Piston Ring Hemp Farm
I've always just used two five minute timers (two and a half minutes apart) to pulse rows of pistons. The time that the piston is over the bottom hemp crop is minimal, so it doesn't have much impact on possible growth. this method is super cheap. I wanted to see if I could make a more efficient one ...

I only use minecarts for redstone signals.

Re: Question about wheat farm efficieny
Just use a turntable on the lowest setting, or some repeaters to get a decent delay, feeding a block dispenser, feeding more block dispensers, until the delay is long enough. Block Detectors are too expensive to waste on wheat, and still likely to not accurately represent all of the wheat.

Buddy block sticks in on state if piston pulls while on.
If a sticky piston pulls a buddy block while the buddy block is emitting a pulse, the buddy block will stay in it's powered state until the next block update occurs. Then, the buddy block goes to its unpowered state. If the timing is right, this is 100% repeatable.

Re: Redstone in real life?
There's no need to buy a kit. You'll learn more by getting the parts yourself and experimenting (much like redstone in minecraft), and they're dirt cheap. The 4000 series are a bunch of integrated chips performing a huge range of logic gates. Almost all of them have "clocked" inputs. You c...

Re: Java lessons [obsolete]
I agree. Python is a pain in the ass to read, especially if you prefer programming with a dark theme. For some reason, I find it difficult to judge tabs and spaces on my black background. The previous posters have obviously not utilized the features of Python. Y'all are just using Python as a script...

Re: Light spreading
I think I could pop on IRC. Just tell me where.
To keep this on-topic. My original response *can* be true, but without modifying World as well, there are a lot of useless lighting calculations performed. I don't notice a hit at all on my desktop, but that's no reason to be sloppy.

Re: Java Coding
Also, never use the word "coding". Us senior programmers always make fun of the new ones using that word. You're a programmer and you program. Actually, I use "coding" as a matter course and I think I qualify as senior ;) The only term I mock openly is "software engineer&qu...

Re: Light spreading
Most of my levels are to affect monster spawning. I'll be modifying Entitymob as well to affect spawning rates based on darkness. Yeah, the idea was to have enough extra levels to be able to implement some lighting effects, once I finish polishing things out. Not sure that I want to go into the Rend...

Re: Light spreading
I was just looking into this. The solution that I'm pursuing involves modifying only the Chunk class. The rest of the lighting engine still uses only 15 values, but within my additions, I map my values (currently 0-255) to the 0-15 range. I plan on using a different map for spawning light levels vs....

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.27)
When an animal is fed, it stays in love mode for 30 seconds. It must find a mate and stay close to it for 3 seconds. If love mode ends before those 3 seconds are up, tough luck for the horny animals. If the 3 seconds elapse, a baby is born. After 5 minutes (player time) both adults can repeat the pr...

The current growth rate is longer than it is intended to be. Just give the hemp more time and plant a lot more.

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.26)
Minecraft loops through each loaded chunk each tick. For each loaded chunk, some number of blocks are pseudo-randomly chosen to be updated. This number was 80 in 1.8.1. It is now 20. The update method for blocks should therefore take into account that they will be called, on average, a quarter as fr...

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.26)
It's not that bad. Chunks are still updated, they just pseudo-randomly choose a quarter less blocks to update. I had no problem whatsoever starting a new world and acquiring enough hemp. Just keep planting more hemp. It will help to increase the density of your hemp within a single chunk, more so th...

Re: New Release! (BTW V3.26)
Chunks each get a quarter less time to choose block positions to update now as opposed to 1.8.1. Scheduling is still fine, so this mainly affects growth and redstone activation.

Re: Color Detector
No it wouldn't. Even with a color detector, you don't get to encode 8 bits of data with one object. Instead, you would have 8 different possible states. Using this as memory would be counter-productive. The space requirements would be enormous except for simply detecting the color of objects, which ...

Re: Pottery touched by water turns into an item
Just rethink your auto-kiln design. Turning blocks into items and vice-versa is supposed to require thought, not a change to the mod... And even if this content was present, your auto kiln would be slow as molasses. From what I gather, you'd be itemifying the unfired pottery being pushed in a line t...
