Re: Gathering Emeralds
the rest of the villagers are useless apart from the priest, but even him is useless after you reach the end. I definitely would not say they're useless, since they're the only way to get their respective scrolls, plus getting mycelium without a mushroom biome I would at least agree that it's a goo...

Re: Gathering Emeralds
Trade, and breed more villagers of that caste so that you can have multiple trade options to choose from (when one goes cold with enchants, start leveling the next one.)

Re: What is "RTH"?
Thank you, that addresses my curiosity rather thoroughly.
Are there any mainstream titles, even from yesteryear, that carry his thumbprints?

What is "RTH"?
Hi folks. I'm very proud to say that I've never played Minecraft, but I have hundreds of hours on BTW. I've also dabbled with BTSM, which is slightly less my style, but I still appreciate the design beauty of it all. I was surfing the forum some hours ago, and for reasons I can't entirely trace, I e...

Auto-swing or auto-use keybind macro?
I tried searching for a fair bit of combos of the keywords in this thread's title ("macro" yielded a lot of false positives, "macroeconomics" and whatnot). Any suggestions on how I might turn my left-click into a toggle instead of a click-to-hold? For large digging projects and s...

Re: Ferns, taming ocelots, and other errata
Also, for taming ocelots it's a little more involved than wolves. I don't remember the process so you'd have to look it up on the MC wiki, but it's more than just walking up and feeding them. Hmm. Ok then. I don't think it'd be very surprising for me to note that I check vMC wiki pages as an absolu...

Thank you very much. Can you help me understand why the change was necessary? I have no idea how to duplicate your fix for future posts.magikeh wrote:-snip

Fired up to invest this Christmas Eve some time in hollowing out a few animal pens, when my loot room surprises me.

Addendum: Since base camp is on a plain / swamp boundary, I am soon-to-be-literally swimming in slimeballs.

Ferns, taming ocelots, and other errata
Howdy folks. Having finally corralled three bovines, I was armed with a tin of milk to finally brave the jungle biome near OS (on my first day-cycle of punching trees, I spied a single immature cocoa pod within render distance -- finally whacked that very pod, since ripened of course, for not one bu...

Re: [Timing rodent b] Hemp seed generation
You have to till a grass block to have a chance of finding hemp seeds, but I don't think your elevation matters at all. Well, for some reason, I had a patch of grass spontaneously spawn within my hemp module of my sub-lagoon greenhouse. Construction delays allowed it to propagate to quite literally...

Re: [Timing rodent b] New chicken egglaying rules, also fish
Upon less than an hour of further play, I now just quit out after having hatched my second egg, for a total of three birds. Tomorrow I'll likely have three eggs, which is juuuuust barely enough to sustain a day if I conserve energy and don't venture far. Relatedly, just before my near-miss incident ...

Re: [Timing rodent b] New chicken egglaying rules, also fish
Depending on how your coop is setup, you might be able to avoid the hatchlings becoming neck deep in the walls of their pen. If possible, hatch them on the underside of a roof, and let gravity pull them to safety. If not, dead center of a wall is a good bet. Best of luck. My coop is a 5x3x3 (LWH) b...

Re: [Timing rodent b] New chicken egglaying rules, also fish
Aaaand, like clockwork, I head back into the game after some emails and hatch the next egg to get shat. After deciding to venture out with what pumpkins I had, in a different cardinal direction (hitherto unavoided because I recall there being desert and ocean in that direction, past untamed swamp, s...

[Timing rodent b] Hemp seed generation
To generate a hemp seed, is it necessary to till a grass-block, or will any dirt full-block suffice?
Is it necessary to be above sea level to make it possible to generate a seed?

[Timing rodent b] New chicken egglaying rules, also fishing
Hey all, absent for a while but I returned. Same seed as before, regenerated world, as my former save was badly corrupted. As before, main base at OS in a swamp biome, same food pressure. Some recollection of the lay of the land from previous playthrough, but enough differences (fractal rounding ran...

Re: Resource and animal spawn rules
Thanks folks! So, I think what I'll do is hope for one or two free pieces of dung from the wild, just enough to make my first saw blade (once I get past my caving problem and find redstone enough to make a few gearboxes, or hell even one.) My idea is to make a wolf cage based on hopper floors, remov...

Re: Can't find a ravine
If I were you I would pick a direction, make a compass and just go off exploring for deserts and skirt the edges of jungles looking for temples. This (and the rest) of your advice here seems good, as I do have some past experience with this mod and simply put it down for a while. (Of course, this i...

Resource and animal spawn rules
I'm just curious what the wolf spawn rules are. As you can imagine, this is a search string that generates essentially nothing but false positives. Are wolves biome specific? Can they respawn in an area? I know that pigs are favored to spawn in EHills and swamps, I know sheep are favored to spawn in...

Re: Can't find a ravine
Update -- in today's play session, I did manage to locate ONE diamond (I dug out in a 3-block radius in all directions around it just to make sure... :( ) and also a single redstone block.
Now I can make a single gearbox. Yay...?...!...?

Re: Can't find a ravine
Using up THAT much iron without finding a single entrance to the deepest strata seems very unusual to me... have you been exploring caves in their entirety? Or have you not gone into the deeper sections? Yes, I've explored caves in their entirety. The first I did was the initial stairwell from my s...

Re: Can't find a ravine
I've trekked out a decent radius all around on the surface, but on stone tools, the grind is painful. (Yes, I know that's the point.) It's not the point. Why the hell are you using stone tools? You use stone tools to get your first iron pick, then never ever again. Iron is so plentiful, it's everyw...

Can't find a ravine
Anyone following my previous posts would likely be happy to know that I overcame my food crisis. I managed to bag a chicken and even a trio of cows, but while caving I forgot to dirt-barricade my cow paddock and now only have one cow. I've considered going out for another one for future reference an...
