Re: How to control the future

Yep, it's a very elegant explanation, and I admit that many-worlds is one of the few attempts at explaining wavefunction collapse that strikes me as logically sound. BUT -- you should add the caveat that while this is a neat and logical explanation, we don't actually have any evidence that it's the...

Re: How to control the future

Read the last sentence in that spoiler. :) ...C'mon, everybody, it'll be fun! Promise! It still wouldn't make a difference. You see, the possibility of landing in a timeline in which the bomb doesn't go off is *identical* to the possibility that, statistically, the bomb doesn't go off in a single u...

Re: How to control the future

Put a scientist in a chamber with an explosive device, and make a measurement on a quantum system (say, spin of a proton) that has a 50/50 chance of detonating the bomb. Do this twice, and he has a 1/4 chance of living. Do this a hundred or so times, and his chance of survival is effectively zero. ...

Re: How to control the future

Oh, we brought quantum mechanics onto table! Then here's a brain teaser: how can you observe only one state of the system, when you are the part of the quantum system yourselves? And with that, I once again return us to the many-worlds interpretation! Because it explains wavefunction collapse with ...

Re: Anyone here into Lua?

Yeah, I've messed around with JS too, only a little bit. If you like that, you'd like lua for sure. Also, here's a cool little javascript game, this was actually my first introduction to it. That's a neat concept. I was frankly disappointed with the depth of the content, though...I'm halfway thinki...

Re: How to control the future

Unless I missed something, conservation of energy simultaneously proves perpetual motion and disproves any method of exploiting it. In fact I'd probably go as far as to say our very lives and existence is build on perpetual motion Firstly, there is a slight, but hugely significant, difference betwe...

Re: Maps and Moving On

I find maps occasionally useful, specifically to keep track of how many jungles/deserts are near my nether portal, and in which directions, so I know when I've searched them all. I agree with others here that the GPS arrow is very "cheaty" and I wouldn't be at all upset if it went away. Ho...

Yeah I think it might be the walk through walls, but it seems they only do it with fences. Its very annoying since every time i breed one it just walks out of the fence when Im in my house. Hopefully it will be fixed ^_^. They also hug the sides of the fences for some reason, i dont know why. The s...

Re: Seeking Alternative Nether Groth Spores Recipe [Spoilers

I got the answer straight from the wiki. Did you check the wiki? Maybe it's because you don't know what the alternate ingredients are. In that case, get the CraftGuide mod, it works great with BTW. Yeah...no. I'm not installing any mods other than BTW. Thanks though :) I'll just try to figure it ou...

I must be a moron, because none of these hints are helping even a little. I thought bottling screaming souls from Hell was about as evil as it gets...there's something MORE evil? I must find out what this is, and do it immediately.

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )

As far as I can tell, the zone boundaries are slightly "fuzzy", in that you stay in them beyond the point where you enter them. You first hit high orbit around 250Km, but you have to go slightly lower than that to get out of it. Hmm well...I was well into the "high space" region...

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )

Surface, low altitude (<18 km), high altitude (>18 km), low orbit (> 70 km) & high orbit (> 250km)? Hmm. I just put a rocket into high space using only Tech 2 (just to verify for myself that it could be done). It has a gravioli detector, a transmitter, and two batteries. Problem is, in high spa...

Re: Hardcore Spawn - Jungles

If you really are respawning at the same 10 points, that's a bug I can see how one could get that impression. Within the spawn radius, there are probably about 10-20 biomes (kneejerk estimate, but that's how it feels to me). So, even though it's random, there are probably not more than 10-20 genera...

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )

Thank you for this wonderful mod. You made me play it all night. But I'm seem to be stuck at tech 3. I don't know how to get science other than by measuring temp, pressure or using that gravity-thingy. But now they are obsolete. HALP Have you tried using the gravioli meter in different biomes (this...

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )

There are a number of "realism" mods I would potentially like to make required for BTSM, including stuff like Deadly Reentry, a life support plugin (not sure which yet or if I'll make my own), FAR, and Remote Tech. After that I might look into expanded functionality mods like KAS and Keth...

Re: Game Design: Skipping failed missions

Say for instance you buy a racing game that promotes 'over 400 cars and 50 tracks!' You get the game home, fire it up only to discover you only have access to three shitty cars and a little loop. You're crap at the game so you only ever manage to unlock 50 cars and 4 tracks. You pay for 100% of the...

Re: How to control the future

Not to one-up you Al, but the simplest answer is simply: conservation of energy :) Any time you see a perpetual motion machine design, you can be certain that somewhere energy is being lost that you aren't accounting for. It will either (1) do no work, or (2) slow down and stop. The caveat is, you c...

Fishing is an option, but not recommended with the fishing rod for two reasons: 1. Hats. 2. Time. Here's my strategy for fishing: By the time I'm about a week into the game, I have three important things: (1) materials for a fishing rod, (2) plenty of dirt, and (3) enough wood to make some ladders....

...the part the concerns me is you are moving a block that gives definition to the kiln. I am pretty sure the "sorcery" occurs when the item being cooked is suddenly no longer in a "kiln". I don't think that's the issue. I have a setup that does exactly the same thing (pushes on...

Allow us to define a wavefunction Ψ( x , y , z , t ) representing a Monster Boson under the influence of the potential field V ( x , y , z ) produced by the blocks in the Minecraft world. By squaring Ψ, we get a function that tells us the probability of a monster being present at any given coordina...
